The Best 20 Players of the Decade…

cocu

It’s that time again soon!

The 00’s are coming to an end. We need to talk “Best Players of the Decade”.

That means, any player who played somewhere from 2000 till now.

Dennis Bergkamp, for instance, qualifies for this list.

There’s a massive questionaire being put up by the OffSide Weekend Blogger and I will collate your responses and make a definitive Top 20 List by the Oranje Bloggers!

dennis

How bout that?

My list would be:

Ruud van Nistelrooy
Edwin van der Sar
Clarence Seedorf
Dennis Bergkamp
Steve Gerrard
David Beckham
Raul
Ronaldinho
Ryan Giggs
Thierry Henry…

Not sure of other players, really…

Ah… Phillip Cocu!

Please have a go, guys, and I’ll tally the totals.

——–xabi———
silva—xavi—iniesta
no european team can beat spain midfield.

fwp09 is a popularity contest
ballack, drogba, gerrard, lampard, buffon, and essien doesn’t deserve to be on the list. it should of been gourcuff, maicon, stankovic, pique, luis, lucio, and dzeko.

@ Finn and Tiju: Paris Hilton is incensed at CR not being nominated for the Women’s world player award. “He is someone who runs about like a little girl”, she had recently told the Life & Style magazine.

So seriously who do you think gets it?

If I was a betting man (which come to think of it I am), my money would be on Messi.

Ditto, Finn. Messi is way ahead of others.

Urby should definitely be called up soon. He has been playing really well with Ajax consistently and has been scoring a lot of very important goals lately. He is also versatile which makes him a huge asset to a team during a tournament. We need him.
I don’t understand how no Dutch players were nominated by either France Football (no surprise they are French so by definition envious, jealous, bitter and cynical because we beat them 4-1 last year!) or FIFA (political). Nobody can tell me that at the very least Sneijder, RVP, Robben and VDS don’t belong in that list. In any case we will win the WC and show them how good we are.

@Jeff
I agree with you about Urby and about the nominations for France Football, but lets not jump to conclusions about the WC, at the Euro overconfidence was definatly our downfall. Look at the 4 matches and in the first 2 games the intensity was there, while in the other 2 we were very lackadaisical (well we can’t exactly count the Romania game as we were through). But our effort against Russia was very poor, except for the last 10 min. And the Overtime was shockingly bad. We can’t let this happen again, so lets keep our feet on the ground.

Some people say Spain has the best midfield of the world but I don’t agree.

Iniesta vs Sneijder. I take Sneijder without any doubts.

Xavi vs Vaart. I take Vaart.

Alonso vs Bommel. I take Bommel.

Senna vs Nigel. I take Nigel.

They are great players but they haven’t played against us!!!.

@Miguel: You can not possibly take Iniesta over Sneijder, not to mention Xavi over Vaart. There is being loyal to Oranje and all that, but thinking with your heart isn’t always the greatest idea.

I hope we never have to face them, and if we do, I hope it is in the final.

Hahaha Finn…another classic…

How’ bout:

Casillas
Sergio Ramos Puyol Van Bommel Gio
Senna Xavi
Sneijder Van Persie Iniesta
Torres

With Ruud, Robben, Villa, Stekelenburg, et al on the bench?

@Miguel: nice thing that you love oranje players that much but for me saying that sneijder is better than iniesta and vdv is better than xavi is a joke. i think that these two – barca – guys are the second and third best players of the world (and i’m not alone with this idea). even fabregas and silva are better than vdv, sneijder. i know what i say because i follow closely the liga (watching every barca and almost every madrid game – and since eto’o and sneijder have been playing for inter i watch quite a lot of inter game as well)
i would say:
iniesta better than sneijder
xavi better than vdv
(same with cesc and silva)
senna and van bommel are at the same level,de jong and xabi alonso maybe same level, maybe xabi is a little bit better
ranking the creative midfielders:
xavi
iniesta
fabregas
(robben – is he midfielder or not?)
silva
sneijder
mata
vdv

actually comparing the two teams only van der wiel is better than sergio ramos who’s been out of form for 1,5 years and is the weakest point of spain – robben or elija could make lots of damages on his side. i think as well that urby is better now than capdevila. van persie can be better than villa or torres but he’s much more inconsistent
it means:
casillas
v d wiel puyol pique urby
van bommel (senna)
silva(fabregas) xavi iniesta
torres villa
it doesn’t mean that we cannot beat spain but certainly not in ball possession or not because our players are better (it’s not true). we can beat them with enormous teamwork, sacrifice etc. it happens like in euro 2008 when individually – apart from arshavin and zhirkov – every dutch players were better than the russians but with good tactics and knowing the weakest points of your opponent (sergio ramos, physical inferiority etc.) you can beat them. the problem is that they have a good coach as well. (del bosque is better than aragones.)
as i said before and as Finn says i don’t want that oranje meet spain before the final because i have no doubt about that they are the biggest favourites of this world cup with a fantastic squad (not to mention players like pablo hernandez, jesus navas, mata, marchena, negredo etc.)

@jan the author of the therad, How bout that?

My list would be:

Ruud vaan nistelrooy
Edwin van der Sar
Clarence Seedorf
Dennis Bergkamp
Steve Gerrard
David Beckham
Raul
Ronaldinho
Ryan Giggs
Thierry Henry…

how biased u rand i think u r a clown ,i repeat not even a single player from ur list, i repeat, be realistic, not even a single player in ur list can make the top list..
be realistic..beckham??lol..raul??lol…seedorf??lol..nistelrooy??lol..
ridiculing u,

Ruud van Nistelrooy wont even be a starter or a contender over Pippo inzaghi or Vieri
Edwin van der Sar is no match for Buffon or Oliver kahn
Clarence Seedorf is a big lol..he has no pace…Pirlo is the best in that position
Dennis Bergkamp..maybe..maybe..but has won ZERO CL or ZERO big trophies, he was in the best Arsenal side ever but has won nothing with Arsenal nor with his national team, sucked against big giants, has nothing to show except that good goal against Argentina..i would take Trezeguet over bergkemp any aday..
Steve Gerrard..big lol..a big diver..not even in the vicinity of the greats
David Beckham..LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLeven Ukranian midfielders r better than him, beckham is a case of a non talented footballer to mint millions for marketing reasons
Raul..most overrated player of our times..spain improved drastically with his exit..
Ronaldinho..kaka is much much much better
Ryan Giggs..probably the only right selection from ur pathetic self
Thierry Henry…nope..no way..

Xavi is a natural leader so yes you are right I’d take him over Vaart but I do think Sneijder is better than Iniesta. Now that he’s playing under a coach that actually trusts in him I believe he’ll demonstrate his full potential.
