That Winning Feeling

May 8th, 2006 | By: Mike | 23 Comments »

While scalding opinion is the mode chosen by an unnamed Serbia and Montenegro writer, the Dutch have only ever relied on outside assurances of their quality.

“Serbia & Montenegro appears to have a strong defense, but they may be out of depth in the World Cup.”

It also helps when results do the talking as well. The Dutch possess the second leading scorer in the premiership as well as the top two scorers in the Eredivisie. In the Champion’s League Final There is the potential for four Dutch players to be on the field. The ability to leave out players who have won honours like that can only be a testament to the squads strength.

Clarence Seedorf is the only player to ever win the Champion’s League with three different teams. Davids and Kluivert are also winners of that prize who aren’t required to demolish the over confident “Plavi”.

We also shouldn’t rule out the evidence provided by Google Fight.

In the interest of all and an effort to be nice I’m going to say, “Yes that is an interesting link however I don’t think it reflects at all on the spirit or quality of the people contained in either country.”

I don’t know about ‘E’ being the toughest. Group C is pretty tight

And Davids, Kluivert and Seedorf are going to be where in June? Definitely not in Leipzig getting their butts handed to them.

Plavi! Plavi! Plavi!

Oh Mike, it reflects…it reflects plenty. It reflects the fact that Croatia kicks SCG’s hump.

Varteni, Vatreni, Vatreni!!!

Alright, alright we get it. I’m trying to be diplomatic. Everyone has a different opinion. Some opinions are based on fact and some aren’t. It isn’t up to me to tell you which is which.

“out of depth” ???

I would re-write it in the case of the Dutch as following:

“Netherlands appears to have a strong offensive, but they might be a little too toffee-nosed in the World Cup.”

Or as a German Proverb nicely puts it:

“Arrogance comes before the fall.”

Auf Wiedersehen Holland ;)

Ah, germans, always full of homour. scared already that holland has a better chance than germany? i cant remember the germans playing to well in the past 8 years if i may say. You might have reached the final in 2002, but that to me wasnt due to alot of skilled or exciting football. HUP HOLLAND !! nederland schopt het deze zomer ver!!

See…I thought that little conflict from yesterday was over. I’ll admit I got sucked in but we stopped it. You won’t change my opinion and we won’t change yours. Enough with the “Plavi” business.

Holland has a good squad, but Im reading (in froums and dutch newspapers) a lots of nasty and above that completely arrogant statements by Dutch fans and media about Serbia & Montenegro. The “PLAVI” team is one you should respect. We respect yours too !

And in case you dont, I thought its good to remind you to not be so snobbish about your team. SCG can beat Holland, without any doubts. it will be a matter of luck.

Auf Wiedersehen ;)

I respect your decision to trust luck for victory. The only difference in our opinion is that I choose to trust experience, history and skill. I know I’m just fanning the fire and I apologize.

Also, I most definately do respect Serbia and Montenegro as our opponents. Sorry if I gave an impression that left you thinking otherwise.

Anyway, we’ll see what happens in a month. We all love football so lets all give each other one big international-cross cultural hug. Don’t be shy now…just reach out and hug someone.

It’s all in the name of the love of football. Football brings grown men together in many different and beautiful ways.

One of those ways, Mike, is to round up in front of a huge screen, under the sun (might be difficult here in Holland), with several beers… :-)

guys, don’t even talk to these germans, holland is going to beat all the teams up, and with young players like van der vaart and robben, the oranje are going to be the champs.
