Telegraaf Survey: 81% think MvB lost it!

Well, the title says it all… And to you statistics-lovers, I do not know how big the N was… Was it four people or 40.000?? But still, 81%….good score…

I can“t imagine of somebody saying right now that van Basten has everything in order when he has lost the control of the whole situation. This boat is drawning

Yikes. That’s scary stuff. I do still like him as a coach though.

Mike, that’s interesting. A part of me too, actually. But why, is the question? Would you like to elaborate? What is it about MvB that you like?

I really hope the survey is right because Holland needs a change right away starting from the president of the KNVB. It is a pity for Marco who is a legend as a player but he just won’t do it as a coach. The players just don’t identify with him anymore due to all the disrespect he has had towards very important players such as Ruud, Bommel, Makaay, Seedorf, Davids, Kromkamp, Huntelaar and now Kuyt.

Mike: please tell me what you see that i dont…i think hes a terrible manager, prob. the worst people-manager in Holland, the results are nothing special (easy games and the ones that really mettered(?) were lost (portugal), there is no progress (its getting worse each game), there’s no spirit and the biggest problem of all: he not able to play the best team cause he drove away some of our most importent players…be interesting to hear your comment..

I think it might be because I still see some of his early ommissions and call ups as courage while most people see them now as something different.

I still have that feeling of fresh air that I got when there were all those reports of him picking players on skill instead of reputation. I’m an optimist too.

hey everyone,
check out this article from soccernet’s excellent dutch correspondent Ernst Bowes

sad to hear vd vaart won’t be playing in slovenia, i was really hoping we might get to watch vaart-deZeeuw-Sneijder/Seedorf play in midfield.

Great article at ESPN. Thanks,

One thing occurred to me in this game – Van Persie’s emergence as a force obscured how bad Oranje was getting under Van Baasten.

At the World Cup, if I remember correctly 2 out of the 3 goals scored were simply outstanding Robin Van Persie plays. In the first game that beautiful pass to breakout Robben, and in the second game that gorgeous set shot. The other goal was Robben to Van N (who then got benched).

Now in the Euro qualifying, Van Persie has been involved in just about every single goal. He either made the breakout pass, set up the goal, or scored it himself.

But other than him, Oranje has done almost nothing to build an attack. No flow from the defense to the mid-field, nothing except for give it to our star and let’s see something really cool.

And now that he’s not there, Oranje is exposed. There’s nothing there.

Personally, my guess is the players on the field, probably led by Gio, should just get in a circle, figure it out themselves and go tell Van B to go away.

@Mike; sorry mate, dont agree..at first it was a fresh wind (remember that a large group of older players ‘waved of’, so we had to try new players) but true at first everything looked very fresh and positive BUT since then things have only gone from bad to worse, its been said on this blog a 1000 times but vanBasten has shown during his reign that hes just not a good manager..im not saying he never will be (altough thats what i think) but at the moment hes certainly not..we really play as bad as i have ever seen them play and its not an incident anymore

all the things said by SK about vanpersie are true but in my opinion he is just one of the players who could lead Oranje, i my humble opinion the other two are vanBommel and vanNistelrooy (and maybe Kuyt), so if vanbasten had done his job it wouldnt all depend on vanPersie

@car; yes were still top of the group but we have as much lost points as Romania and Bulgaria (they played one game less), and yes, i think we will qualify without too many problem, just think we have nothing to show on a EC in 2008 and will get humiliated by portugal with ronaldo scoring 5…..arggggggghhhhh

be leader in such a group is not difficult at all. oranje should have 15 points instead of 11. the opponents don’t belong to the elit… of course oranje is not at the level of italy but equal with the english national team (which is also very bad at the moment).

Latest news; just as i tought i should be more mild about vanBasten due to the comments of Mike and Jan i hear on the dutch news at deJong is prob. gonna play!!! Now im all angry again..deJong is one of those players..i mean i know you all have yours, one of those players i really and truly hate..not just that i think hes one of the most overrated players since Beckham and that i my opinian he should never were an orange shirt its not cause hes father was a footballplayer himself and stole from his teammates, i just dont like his face.. why is he with the first 22?? Watch Sportschau each week and all i have seen him do with HSV is f#ck up..get booked..f#ck up again…i havent seen hi,m play for ages, he either injured or benched..

sorry Mike and Jan, really tried to be a bit more optimistic! its all gone now

I read that too. De Jong for Landzaat, Seedorf for Vaart. I agree with that i-dont-like-de-jong ranting of Goose :-0. Why not De Zeeuw, for crying out loud?!?!

you mean the same De Jong that thought he was too good to play for ajax, and pushed for a transfer only to get benched at a team like HSV? its funny but of everyone’s own favourite version of oranje that i’ve seen posted on this site, no one has ever suggested that De Jong should play.
anyone think that marco is playing mental games with De Zeeuw? like he’s teaching him a lesson for complaining to the press about his treatment/experience with the elftal, and showing him who’s boss?

Goose, agreed that Oranje has the talent to be a solid team. They shouldn’t be completely dependent on one player, but it sure looks to me like they are.

Van Basten is a moron. His pride/ego truly do drive his character. It’s pathetic. He ostracizes the best Holland has(RvN, MvB, Makaay, Davids etc), picks the Eredivisie all-stars and tries to mold non 4-3-3 players into a 4-3-3. A good manager adapts to his personnel, not the other way around. Since idiot van Basten dropped our best, is it so hard to field a team like this and not still be successful?:

kromkamp-boula-heitenga-gio

de zeeuw
sneijder seedorf
van der vaart

kuyt/hunter van persie

not sure about the back 4, but who is? Kuyt and Huuntelar are interchangable. The 4 man midfield, tho not our best, I think would be resonably strong. Robben comes off the bench to provide a spark if needed.

Does anyone know anything about replacing MVB with Frank Rijkaard. Rijkaard’s contract is supposed to be up for renewal.
