Suarez leads the way for Ajax…again…

Ajax has it’s future in the UEFA Cup in their own hands. Or feet. Against Zilina, Ajax did what it had to do: win.
The 1-0 wasn’t great, but it fits the scenario. If Ajax wins in December against Prague, the game against HSV may be lost without endangering the chances to the next round.
In a half filled stadium, it was again Suarez who took Ajax by the hand. And not for the first time.
Just before the break, he scored a deflected shot by Vertonghen. Ajax couldn’t score more in a game that would have allowed players like Sneijder or Van der Vaart a field day.
Against the Slovakians, it was easy to play “between the lines”, for players who can do that. The two Madrid players made that style their signature style.
The current Ajax needs a player like Sulejmani to fill the gap Sneijder left. Siem de Jong, who replaces Sulejmani, works and runs and is all good intentions but he misses the happy feet of Van der Vaart, Litmanen or Sneijder.
De Jong was replaced by Kennedy, who used the width of the pitch more.
Defensively, there were no problems for Ajax, whatsoever.
Marco van Basten: “We wanted to give the fans value for money. We only scored once, so the match stayed exciting, hahahaa… No seriously, it wasn’t good. We needed more pace, more action on the flanks and an individual trick. We couldn’t do it, but we did take the three points. Let’s quickly forget this game.”
