Suarez keeps on scoring for Ajax

And for the second time in this young season, Suarez was allowed to take the match ball home. It’s the standard present for a player who scores three times in one game. Yesterday, the Ajax player on fire even scored four against Slovan Bratislava.

Before the season, the skipper promised his team mates 25 goals in the Dutch competition. He doesn’t want to name a benchmark for the Europa League: “First we need to qualify for the group stages, then we’ll see….”

The big win was a big of a surprise for Ajax even, who don’t have to worry for the away game. Donald scored the fifth goal in the last minutes for Ajax as a sub. And the victory came in a match where the players really needed to find the motivation within themselves. A half filled stadium. A no-name opponent from Eastern Europe. And for the fourth time, only UEFA Cup football.

Ajax had a busy month and Jol rested Emanuelson and Wielaert. Aissati was still injured so Siem de Jong got the creative role in midfield. His work resulted in Suarez’ first goal. De Jong is an interesting player in Ajax’s second-tier team. One of the few midfielders with depth. He has the lungs and legs to thunder into the box Neeskens style, the only thing he lacks – for now – is starting speed and the technical skills in the small spaces.

It took 65 minutes in the game for the 2-0. After Ajax had played a sloppy first half, trying to invite Slovan to attack, Ajax dominated the second half. De Zeeuw allowed Suarez his second goal, the third goal was a beauty from distance and his fourth was offered to him on a golden plate by Rommedahl.

The fans that did come gave Ajax and Suarez a standing ovation that lasted till well after the game.

The only one not so happy with Suarez was Jol. “I’d rather have him score twice instead of four times. The whole of Europe watches this and I wouldn’t want to see Suarez go before the transfer deadline. He promised us he’ll stay one more season, and I trust his word. Big clubs ahven’t presented themselves yet and lesser clubs can’t afford him. Luis will move to the European top next season.”

Suarez has got to stay this year. As of right now he is by far the best player in the dutch league. Only Afellay is close to him in terms of technical ability and performance wise. But Ajax may win the league by relying on him. He single handedly kept us in the Match vs PSV with the exception of a beauty by Urby. And he single handedly won the match vs RKC and Slovan. Hopefully he keeps it up.

Jan, I don’t think Slovan Bratislava is a no-name opponent at all. They used to be a big name team in the 70 and 80s. They may be playing in Slovakia but when they were part of Czechoslovakia, they were always a top team. Nonetheless I agree with Marc’s comments about Suarez. He is dominant. Too bad he can’t play for Holland.

I am watching AC Milan’s seasons first game and Huntelaar is not starting. I hope he gets subbed on at least.

best thing to do is forget about wesley and start giving other players like seedorf, m. de jong, and wijnaldum a call to orange.

Hi,
Why is Sneijder getting delusional? Doesn’t he realize that at Inter he’ll get great opportunities to prove Perez wrong? He should go to Inter instead of trying to make it at Madrid simply to satisfy his ego! Any contrary views?

What happens to Huntelaar actually? He did not play, not sitting on the bench also.

If Sneijder stays, people will forget him soon. He will not get the playing time at Madrid. VDV has stated that he will leave Madrid.

Hunter was red carded(double yellow) in last competition game for REAL and it was picked up by the Italian FA. simple…one match ban.
Shyam – EVERYONE here shares same view as you on Sneijder and Inter.

@Jeff, Slovan may have won the European Cup II in 1969 against Barca, but in today’s football it’s a relative no name. No Dutch kid gets excited when Ajax plays Slovan. There’s no big name player there to identify with, etc etc. The Slowakian competition is not relevant for Dutch fans, so that’s what I meant. I think that a poster “Ajax – Arsenal” or “Ajax-Sporting Lisbon” would work better in preparing your team mentally and to get people on the stands.

I wasn’t trying to be negative about Slovan, it’s just not a team that “speaks to the imagination” as the Dutch saying goes…

Suarez Suarez Suarez and his flaming guns. He sure can score goals.
Really can’t stand him though. I think that third goal was a missed shot that got lucky. Only he will know.

Sneijder is definitely playing a game with Madrid. No don’t about it. He knows he’s been screwed and now he’s not leaving without causing them some grief (as he should). Apparently SAF is interested in signing him, and Bayern may need some extra stock in the midfield as well…

He knows what he’s doing, and I’ll bet a lot of money he’ll be in a different uniform in 2 weeks.

In any case, i still believe even if Sneijder decides to risk it all and stay at madrid, he’ll end up being selected after the transfer window closes, and also will soon afterwards start playing games as a starter. this Granero kid is not better than sneijder, not by a mile. saw him a few times already, and hes just plain simple not better than sneijder.
Unfortunately, they just want to make money out of our dutch ace.

But with kaka, ronaldo, robben, benzema, higuain, raul … the team is just not balanced. and granero is a mediocre option for the playmaker role. and if they think xabi alonso will be the ultimate playmaker, they are sorely mistake, and will surely be second best to barca.
Sneijder will shine through, still at Real Madrid.

Maintain the Faith!!!

ps : TRUTHS IMO:
- lassana diarra, kaka are mediocre playmakers (lassana was attempting at being one during the 2nd half against dortmund)
- Xabi Alonso is an average playmaker, the only great thing abt him was his partnership with gerrard.
- granero is good, young, inexperienced, has a lot of potential, but is just not there yet!

Sooner or Later, I feel RM management will eventually succumb to the reality that they will need Sneijder seriously, even as a starter.

wes going to inter is not necessarily a good choice… alot of players find it hard playing in a mourinho system… dont forget dutchies have had their careers derailed at inter in the past…(bergkamp, van der meyde) maybe wes knows something we dont…(maybe he’s staying because of that spanish babe he hooked up with!)

Jan, I was not suggesting Slovan would excite the Dutch fans, it clearly did not but if you look at all the teams in the Europa League, there were many teams with far less of a pedigree than that of Slovan. After all we could have played against a team from Cyprus, Moldova, Norway, and so on. Don’t forget that Slovakia are doing quite well in the WC qualifiers (1st place!). What I am saying is that Slovan is a tougher opponent than many other teams. This is precisely what Jol said. 5-0 is a great score and should give Ajax a good deal of confidence. A few year back under Adriaanse and even Ten Cate, those are the sorts of matches we would have lost.

suarez is great at hopefully he’ll remain at ajax at least for this season…

@Rami: kaka will be the number one playmaker at real, and behind him they have xabi alonso in a deeper position. he’s not mediocre,he’s a great midfielder,a starter in the spanish national team. sneijder can play in his position but he’s better in kaka’s position. and real still have guti as well. it means they have 4 players for 2 positions. sneijder is behind them in the hierarchy. if he stays he won’t have the possibility to proove himself. kaka injured? guti will play. xabi alonso injured? granero will play. in every cases wesley will be on the tribune watching the game. perez doesn’t want him,he doesn’t want to understand it. in january inter won’t be interested in him,but instead of inter groningen or maybe ajax… if this happened i would like to see seedorf in oranje at the world cup instead of sneijder. anyway i always have prefered clarence to wesley.
about inter: sure, this team used to be a kind of cemetery for talented players (bergkamp, jonk, van der meyde, davids) ,but in the last years – especially with mourinho – everything has changed. and they have noone for these two positions. 0 player instead of 4 and they desperately need at least one. this is simple enough. eto’o is a striker,a lethal finisher but he needs someone behind him. milito is similar. it means that wesley is the only missing link at inter. finally i don’t think that mourinho’s inter is worse than pellegrini’s madrid. the defence is better, the strikers are better, but their midfield is not creative at all. until now their attacking tactics was simple enough – they gave the ball to zlatan and he had to do something with it because he’s a shadow striker and a finisher at the same time. with his departure everything has changed and this is a great-great opportunity for sneijder.

@Ferenc:

you raised important points concerning the Wesley Sneijder transfer issue. here’s what I think.

Kaka was never primarily a playmaker at Milan. He was more of a second striker, behind pato, and in front of the main playmaker of the team Pirlo. Hes dynamic, fast-paced, good dribbler, determined, scores, shoots from distance, BUT doesn’t dictate play, does not have sufficient vision, and does not position himself off the ball as well as a good playmaker would. Kaka is just great at being Kaka with the presence of Pirlo and also Seedorf to some extent.

Xabi Alonso is a team starter , yes! , but hes no playmaker. With Liverpool theres Gerrard who does most of the playmaker’s work. He’s role , imo, is more to support gerrard offensively in midfield. Same goes for Xabi in spain, there is Xavi and iniesta who do all the playmaker’s work and he just supports them.
Xabi is good in the sense that he is a rather complete midfielder. Good physique, good in attack, good in defense, and displays intelligence on the field. But he has never been a team’s orchestrator, tempo disctator or basically a playmaker!!!!

Granero is a playmaker, and Sneijder’s main threat. But as i said earlier, he is young and inexperienced. i doubt he’ll make a very “lasting” impact.

And then theres Guti, also a playmaker and also a threat to Sneijder. But Guti is getting older and older, and im quite sure he will not be able to play a starting playmaker role for the squad, game in game out..

Sneijder’s rebuttal on behalf of RM management is very understandable in these circumstances. They want to make money out of him. fine. but if Wes doesnt want to leave, and will not leave, the transfer window deadline will pass, and then automatically i believe they’ll have no choice but to re-instate him in the squad. He’s simply a better quality playmaker then Guti and Granero, no matter how they put it. Slowly they will be obliged to recognize this fact and include him more in first-team plans, and eventually in key-roles.

this is my opinion. I have no worries about Sneijder’s future or the important contribution he is expected to give in the WC. I am definitely for the inclusion of Seedorf, I’ve had nothing but praise for him in the last few years, but not at the expense of or Key-Player Sneijder.

Here’s how i see RM with Sneijder:

——–Lassana Diarra—Xabi Alonso——-
–C. Ronaldo——–Kaka——–Sneijder–
—————–Benzema————–

Robben, Higuain are power subs.

i see exactly the same with one exception: robben in place of sneijder. (anyway i hope they will be empty handed at the end of the season :P – even with their all big signings they are not as perfect as xavi, yaya, iniesta – messi, ibra, henry where only zlatan is a doubt for me. hopefully he will do fine, but he’s not as leathal as samu.)

inter might be like this:
j. cesar
maicon,lucio,chivu,santon
motta,cambiasso,zanetti
sneijder
eto’o,milito
