State of Orange…

May 16th, 2009 | By: Jan | 36 Comments »

As off May 20, Bert van Marwijk will entertain a group of Eredivisie players who will have finished their club season. Others are still active and won’t need the extra sessions with Bert.

The 14 apprentices are: Stekelenburg (Ajax), Van der Wiel (Ajax), Wielaert (Ajax), Mendes da Silva (AZ, Schaars (AZ), De Zeeuw (AZ), Timmer (Feyenoord), Van Bronckhorst (Feyenoord), Afellay (PSV), Amrabat (PSV), Marcellis (PSV), Braafheid (FC Twente), Elia (FC Twente) and Piet Velthuizen (Vitesse).

MAARTEN STEKELENBURG

Was allowed to play for Ajax again due to Ken Vermeer’s injury. He wants to finish a rotten season on a high note against Iceland (June 6) and Norway (June 10).

HENK TIMMER

Looking for a new club after Feyenoord ditched him. Will have to play the play offs with the Red-Whites, still. There’s a chance the goalie needs to play a game with Feyenoord three days before Iceland.

KHALID BOULAHROUZ

Was benched at Stuttgart in April due to loss of form but is back as a starter. Played his best game of the season against Wolfsburg.

EDSON BRAAFHEID

Hopes to win the National Cup with Twente after a tremendous season. Only missed one game in the competition. Would like clarity about his future before the June internationals. Twente wants to renew his contract but there are rumors Barcelona wants to sign him.

GIOVANNI VAN BRONCKHORST

Invited by Van Marwijk but not really in need of extra training, since Feyenoord is in the play offs. Is fit and only missed one game in April due to a suspension.

JOHN HEITINGA

Missed the last internationals due to concussion. Played almost all games for Atletico. Is still in the running for a CL ticket.

DIRK MARCELLIS

Played his last competition game for PSV last Sunday. Didn’t miss a second at PSV since the last international games of Oranje.

JORIS MATHIJSEN

Had some heavy weeks with HSV. Missed out on the national cup, the UEFA Cup finals and the title in the last weeks. Is ready on May 23 and is allowed to join the Oranje trainingssessions.

GREGORY VAN DER WIEL

Elected Talent of the Year at Ajax. Played his first two internationals for Oranje recently.

ANDRÉ OOIJER

Is still a regular at Blackburn Rovers. Didn’t play against Portsmouth due to a hamstring injury. Save from relegation since last weekend.

IBRAHIM AFELLAY

The PSV star was fouled 112 times this season. Only Utrecht’s Loval was fouled more often. Didn’t suffer many injuries though. Last two games however, he was out with a calf injury.

MARK VAN BOMMEL

Leads in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich and remained skipper under interim coach Heynckes. Bayern will play a testimonial on May 31 against his old club Fortuna Sittard. Will join Oranje after that game.

NIGEL DE JONG

Still has a chance to qualify for the Europa League with Man City. Is a regular starter at the rich English Club. Last competition game on May 24.

STIJN SCHAARS

After winning the title with AZ, Schaars will ponder his future. Is linked to Bayern Munich. Missed the last two games for AZ due to suspension. Will be nicely rested when Oranje commences.

WESLEY SNEIJDER

Started training last Friday after some weeks of injury woes. Played his last game for Madrid on April 4. Hopes to play in the last three Madrid games.

RAFAEL VAN DER VAART

Was a sub in the last three games of Real Madrid. Played as a starter on April 21 but was replaced during half time.

DEMY DE ZEEUW

Has a short holiday of ten days before he reports for duty with Van Marwijk. After the two internationals the midfielder reports back at AZ after ten days.

RYAN BABEL

Started only six times for Liverpool this season but has done well. He scored last Saturday as a sub against West Ham. Still has a slight chance to win the title in England.

KLAAS-JAN HUNTELAAR

Eager to learn who Madrid’s new coach will be, offering up more clarity about his future. Had to sit out the game against Valencia last Sunday.

DIRK KUYT

Played most games at Liverpool, with Carragher and Reina: 36. Didn’t miss a single competition game and played his best season according to his coach. Benitez calls him Mr Duracell.

ROBIN VAN PERSIE

Had a groin injury for two weeks. Was fit in time for his 50st European game against Man United but couldn’t avoid losing.

ARJEN ROBBEN

Got injured on April 21, but was back against Barca (6-2 loss). Played the most at Madrid off all Dutchies: 22 times.

And so it is… Dirk Scheringa picked Ronald Koeman as Van Gaal’s replacement. I just hope he does better than he did at Valencia…

I have my doubts about Koeman. On the other hand AZ should try to keep most of their players and Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord need some reinforcements urgently. Well…I guess we just have left the Champions League Final where I will go for Barcelona!!!

Hopefully Holland will win. These youngsters have talent but at 17 they have to be very careful not to lose the ground. Remember Drenthe at U-21?.

Guys, have you seen Seedorf´s webpage?. http://www.seedorf.com

Very interesting stuff he publishes. Will he be called up at some time, will he be useful for Oranje now?

V.Wolfswinkel is the next man.

1-Huntlaar
2-Nestelrooy-(hope he will rejoin us in 2010)
3-Wolfswinkel

In our current team there is no room for zeadorf.i repeat he will never do miracle for orange.he helped dutch team in EC2008 by opting himself out of the team.thats why we won against france and italy.
Anybody think is it possible a 3-0 victory over italy with zeadorf in our line up.
So a big emphatic NO to Zeadorf.i would prefer kuyt over him at any day

great free kick to win in for germany with 3 mins of extra time remaining. they were to better team. dont think the young dutchies should feel too hard done by.

The young dutchies played too defensive, well… at least they knew how to defend. But, it’s difficult to win with the way they played. Their midfield need to be more agressive.

Only Issoufi, Ozyakup, and Castaignos looked dangerous. Especially for Castaignos, very very fast player and good technique. Germany players simply couldn’t handle him.

Let’s wait for World Cup U17…

Too bad, but the germans were much better second half. Isoufi, Castaignos and Ozyakup clearly the best of the lot.
BTW 18/19-year-old Leftback/centre back V.Aanholt just extended his contract with Chelsea.

Think if AZ can keep most of their squad together and buy some quality to reinforce or replace, they have a shot in CL. The basis is good, solid defence with depth:
Moisander, Swerts, Moreno, Luirink, Jaliens, Klavan, Pocognoli and
Mendes da Silva, Luijckx can play there as well. Donk is out on loan to WBA, he might be a reinforcement as he will probably have grown and matured as a player (:( benchwarmer) in PL.
Considering Koeman, Donk will most likely come back to AZ.
midfield primarily depends on De Zeeuw, Mendes da Silva but especially Schaars. AZ should look for some quality players to buy at a decent price, but should also be signing some talents.

Well, I think U-17 Oranje did pretty good. Great job by Stuivenberg and the players, that’s not a defeat which will make their futures darker. And the attack duo (Özyakup-Castaignos) is already followed by some teams. Well, Castaignos, at least: Wenger already picked Özyakup to Arsenal from AZ…

The better team won but Holland had 2 golden chances in the second half to score but Jango did not get his head to the ball. The first 20 minutes they played like a Dutch team, lots of passing, but after that the Germans took over. Strange though in that the moment we started passing the ball more than 3-4 times, we looked dangerous, the coash should have yelled “keep passing it around” a few times perhaps. Keeper Ter Mate, Castagnios and Isoufi (?) look good future prospects.

Ah jeez, Koeman at AZ?? So long for their chances next year. Has Koeman ever done well at any team? He just seems like a mercenary going to whoever pays him, and then leaving soon after when the team is failing – and collecting a big severance package if he can.

Wenger to Real?

It is actually a “real” possibility after being absolutely hammered by fans at their annual general meeting for shareholders.

According to BBC (which is usually credible) and Daily Mail.

As a Mexican I’d love to see Hugo Sanchez coaching Real Madrid. It has always been his dream and recently his team (Almeria) has been winning but as much as I’d love that to happen I think it is very unlikely.

Can somebody explain why BvM picks Amrabat, but not Beerens?!? Ridiculous. Amrabat is no more than an average player, he can’t pass defenders and his crosses are awful. Surely he gets the benefit of playing in top club PSV. I have no doubt that Beerens has a higher ceiling, he is quick and has a nice eye on goal. I expect Elia to make a selection for next month’s qualifiers as a back up on wings because Robben and Kuijt have a very long season, not to mention Babel is struggling mightily. I don’t understand either why old timers such as Wiealert and Timmer are invited. It’d be more beneficial to give the spots to test new players who’ve done exceptionally well in Eredivisie this season; Wout Brama, Danny Holla, and Leroy Fer to name a few.
