Sneijder guides Hunter through Madrid

December 10th, 2008 | By: Jan | 24 Comments »

Klaas Jan Huntelaar has moved to Madrid, to prepare for his debut, against Villareal in January. Wesley Sneijder guided his Oranje mate through the Madrid training complex where he’ll commence training on Wednesday, separate from the group.

The Hunter won’t work with Schuster anymore, who got fired and replaced by Juande Ramon. The latter was sacked from Tottenham earlier in the season. Schuster did have an extensive phone conversation with Klaas Jan last week but whatever his ideas were with the PSV-developed striker, we’ll never know.

Huntelaar also spent some time with another Dutch Real player, Arjen Robben, who won’t be playing with Real against Barca this weekend. The Merenguez wanted to protest the red card Robben received last weekend, but when the ref report said Robben had said “fuck you” to the ref when he got sent away, the Madrid management decided to accept the punishment.

Schuster’s future seemed uncertain for weeks already. It seemed clear that the former Mannschaft playmaker and enfant terrible didn’t know how to solve the crisis in the Spanish capital. When quizzed about the gameplay against Barca, Schuster said: “It doesn’t matter. We won’t be able to win that game anyway…”. Not smart :-) .

For now, it remains unclear what the position of the Dutch players – all signed by Schuster bar Ruud van Nistelrooy – will be in Madrid.

Hot off the press: Real Madrid is looking to sign another Ajax asset. Jan Olde Riekerink, Ajax’ Youth Development Manager, has been named as the successor to Michel. The latter quit recently because young talents don’t get the chance to reach the first team. Olde Riekerink – former player of Sparta and assistant coach to Jan Wouters and Co Adriaanse at Ajax – seems to be the ideal man to set up an Ajax-like development system for Real. The fact that he knows the Ajax guys and speaks Dutch will definitely be a pro for him and a sure sign Calderon & Co are not fed up with the Dutch influence.

The future looks uncertain @ Madrid for many of these players. But the truth is, these players are among the best in the world, and they have to play with that mental attitude.
Van der Vaart has not been playing like he has in his previous clubs. I wonder why.
Robben is ALWAYS INJURED(both at Chelsea and Madrid), man whats wrong with his legs. It seems like Oranje players have feeble legs, and lack any endurance.
ROBBEN, Van Nilsterooy, ROBBEN, Van Persie, ROBBEN, Sneijder, ROBBEN, Van der Vaart,Huntelaar, ROBBEN.
Maybe it has to do with their nutrition in Holland.
Time for them to prove their worth on the field.

Hey Huntelaar :-) . All these new things in your life and still you’ve time to come here…

As for nutrition: you’re right! There’s not a real topsport culture in Holland as compared to the US for instance. La Ling has a clinic and works with Van der Vaart for some time now and Raf really improved. Now, Robben has consulted Ling for nutritional advice. According to Ling, it’s all in the “what you eat” category. Cross your fingers! (not you Robben! You’d break them!!)

There’s no way that Robben’s problem is his diet. You don’t get injured that often because of poor diet. He even responded about it in a interview not too long ago and said that it’s definitely not because of his diet and that he doesn’t eat too poorly. I’ll see if I can find the quote.

Found it. Not sure which interview it’s from, I got it from a secondary source.

A Dutch doctor recently stated that your muscle injuries are caused by a poor diet. Care to clarify?
That’s nonsense. Every player can improve in various aspects, and diet is one of them. I am eating better now, but it’s not like I was eating pizza and potato chips every day. I can assure you that my diet didn’t cause my injury.

I hope Huntelaar (and all the Dutch armada) get better at Real. Mainly Arjen. He deserves to recover from its physical problems. And got the gifts of a great footballer – oh, that warmful night at Bern against France… how he played good!

But I don’t think it will be possible. Either Schuster, or Juande, or anyone who coaches Real, coaches a club with a stuck-up managerial committee and arrogant supporters. Watch what happened with Capello after 2006/07 season at Spain: he won La Liga, finished the mess of Galacticos age… and was dismissed.

Because Capello was not playing the beautiful game. And people in Madrid think in two ways: “It’s not the players who help Real, Real help the players. The player can be the best of the world, but, if he doesn’t play for Real, he’s the one with bad luck. So, it’s outrageous if he don’t want to play here” and “We can win everything. Champions, La Liga, La Copa del Rey. But, if we don’t win all in style, thrashing by 7-0 our opponents in every match, our team sucks”

So, if Hunter don’t score in his first matches wearing that white shirt, everyone will boo him.

And, after all, it’s like someone here (Andrew?) wrote: in normal conditions, Raf will be Wesley’s bench, Drenthe will be Robben’s and Hunter, Ruud’s sub. So, the fact of Real having six Dutch players do not mean Bert van Marwijk will not have to train them at Oranje.

Robben has to work his body better in the gym or perhaps he doesn´t pay too much attention to the phisycal aspect of the game and only concentrates in his great technique. He needs coaching to know where he has to work more and more and definetely his nutritional habits can be an important factor but I don´t think at all because of that he is having so many injuries.

Are you saying that if you eat pizza instead of sushi you´ll break your leg??? That is nonsense. He needs to work more in the gym and specially he needs to be more careful when to pass the ball and when to pass his rival because many of his injuries are because he is too anxious on the pitch. He has great skills and hopefully his injuries will reduce if not he will finish his career pretty soon.

Robben seems to have a lot of room playing with the new coach. I don’t see how every coach that coaches Real Madrid will sub van der Vaart out at half for EVERY game. It’s a bit ridiculous to me, if I were van der Vaart I would want a transfer.

Jess the chocolate leg is usually your weaker leg (made of chocolate) I am quite sure Robin was referring to the equalizer against Chelsea where he thundered in with his right foot, his chocolate leg.
dirk, apparently Ramos wanted to spare vdV for the weekend game, thats the news I heard. Robben has to sit it out.

Amazing! ROBBEN is being hailed everywhere as the best player in the world for his current “superb” performances @ Madrid. He is getting all the headlines, all the praises: “Absolutely unplayable” according to Goal.com.
Although injury plagued, he is playing the full 90 minutes.
If he stays fit, and keep playing as he currently is, I predict that he is going to be the “Ballon d’Or” of the 2008-2009 season.
(Van Basten last Dutch Player to win the Ballon d’Or in 1992. 16 years ago!
A lifetime ago, indeed. This means that the Oranje have yet to produce another Van Basten).

Is sneijder injured? Robben was the best player last night. His goal was excellent. Also his pass to Raul. In the first half, his shots were blogked by Zenit’s keeper, twice. That was why he chipped the ball in the second half. Raul scored the same style with Robben.

Robben is the only winger that Holland has, the good one. Aren’t there any other wingers in Holland right now?

JESS: Arsenal’s Robin van Persie vows to score more goals with improved ‘chocolate leg’
Van Persie, who scored Arsenal’s crucial equaliser against Chelsea last week, has said that improving his right foot was the only way he could overcome the doubts he had about his skill.
“Positive thinking is the key for me. I know I can shoot with my right leg. Of course my left one’s better but it’s down to your belief in the power of your wrong foot.
“In Holland we call it your chocolate leg.
“When I have a chance I think positively. I think this is a good chance with my right foot – I can score this one.
“And I think you will miss many more chances with your chocolate leg if you think negatively, thinking that it’s not your strong foot.
“This is not how I approach it. If it comes on my right foot and I think it’s a big chance, I will shoot and try to score, as simple as that.”

About wingers, where are there? AFAIK, Castelen is in Germany. Amrabat is at PSV. I don’t know for sure the rest of the players. I don’t think Drenthe is a winger.

Yeah, Drenthe is definitely a winger (and is steadily improving at Madrid). I just finished watching the Real Madrid game last night and Wow! Robben is on fire. He scored an awesome chipped goal, had a superb through pass for one of Raul’s goals, and had about 6 shots saved by the keeper (and probably 4 of those were quite good saves). Hope he can stay fit (big if..)!

De Ridder is at Wigan (?) in England… I think. Doesn’t start a lot.
Van der Meyde is back in the selection at Everton.
Amrabat is injured.
Bruins is out of form at Feyenoord.
Biseswar is injured at Feyenoord.
Slory is injured at Feyenoord.
Castelen is injured at HSV.

We should win the World Cup for Injured and Breakable Players…
