Sensational wins in the UEFA Cup!

Mario cheers….

With all that KJH humbug happening and our top teams performing so poorly, it’s easy to oversee that a couple of teams are actually doing insane things in Europe!

Mario Been’s NEC beat Michael Laudrup’s Spartak Moscow in Moscow, 1-2, and now has the future (next round) in their own hands… eh…feet!

Well done NEC!

The match didn’t start too well for Been’s lads. In the first minutes of the game, Spartak scored 1-0 and was looking for an easy game against the European minions. But NEC dug deep and went “all or nothing”. In the second half, NEC overwhelmed Spartak with their attacking play and 5 minutes before time former Vitesse striker Jhon van Beukering equalized. This 1-1 wasn’t good for NEC, so they pressed on, for Danish player Schone to score the 1-2 in the dying seconds, giving his idol Laudrup a lot of grieve.

NEC now has to get a result against Udinese - already qualified - in the last game to go through!

FC Twente hosted former coach Fred Rutten’s club Schalke 04 - in dire straits - in the UEFA cup and made Rutten’s woes even larger. The heavily criticized manager ( the fans want him out and pray for Huub Stevens to come…maybe Schalke and PSV can do an exchange??) saw his team lose 2-1. With this McClaren’s Twente will proceed to the next round.

I wanted to share this with you quickly before I head out to Melbourne for a couple of days.

So, keep this blog alive my friends and see you on the flip!

Schaars is a very good player, i can see him taking over from V.Bommel within a few years, but no only Schaars is good enough for oranje,David Mendes da Silva is doing pretty good aswell. And he can play rightback if he has too.
V.Persie, is at his best in a free role, connecting the midfield with the attackers. He can be as good as Bergkamp, but he’ll have too improve a bit if he is to do that.
Btw it’s pretty remarkable if you think realize that the majority of the (possible) players in oranje are with pretty big clubs, or are linked to them.
Sneijder, V.d.Vaart, Robben, Huntelaar(Real Madrid)
Kuyt,Babel(Liverpool), Mathijsen, De Jong(HSV), Heitinga(Atletico Madrid)
V.Persie(Arsenal), Engelaar(Schalke 04), V.Bommel(Bayern Munchen)
Now all we need are some keepers and defenders to break through and we have an allround quality team.

I have to go with M-O and Goose as well. Dennis finishing was top notch, but his first touch is possible the best I have ever seen. It is pure silk. It is so effortless and skillful that you just get chills up your spine.

Great video M-O!!

Haha…I am probably the biggest Bergkamp fan around, my question was CAN he (vP) become as good as DB ? not WILL he become as good ? A LOT depends on his mentality and how he grows up, he has had 4 years at Arsenal and next year he’ll be the same age as Bergkamp was when he joned Arsenal after a miserable spell at Inter. have only seen ONE game where vP dominated play for Arsenal from the no10 position, something DB did regularly. In one game where he was sooooo totally in control, one opposing team member asked for his shrt after DB totally wrecked his team. In those days it wasn’t yet done in English football.
I am also a huge fan of Schaars - unfortunately can’t see too many games with AZ. Goose keep us informed of his progress please.

Hi guys, I’m back! Love the Dennis-Robin comparison…

To me, there’s some differences in their playing style, making it very hard to compare them. To me, Dennis was always the man of the magic moment. He could be invisible during a game, but suddenly perform a miracle. Robin is more of a constant playmaker/threat. Robin is also very good with the head, Dennis not so much. On the other hand, Robin blows a fuse regularly (collecting cards) where as Dennis was a gentleman (except against Yugoslavia for Oranje).

Dennis was more confident, more humble. More a Zen kind of football player. Robin is more macho. Wants the ball. Wants to be the leader. Dennis is happy not to be the leader. Which makes him more than the leader, if you know what I mean?

welcome back Jan

Bergkamp is the much more complete footballer.. unlike vPersie Bergkamp started as a real striker and at Arsenal he become more and more a sort of attacking-conducter who could also score (amazing) goals

vPersie is much more a ‘playground footballer ‘with fancy tricks who has learned more and more to be a real footballer

but ofcourse the biggest difference is personality .. Bergkamp always was the supreme proffessional, vPersie still isnt

Bergkamp never let his ego stand in the way of a TEAM performance .. vPersie cant

i thin vPersie is a very skilled and talented player who has for sure become a better player at Arsenal but;

vPersie will never get close to Dennis; NEVER!!!

btw Jan ; did you see the Huntelaars father vid i posted??

To even make notes comparing VPersie to Him is wrong.

Don’t make me say it again!

Eredivisie update;

PSV - Fc Groningen ; 4-2 ; after going down 2-0 PSV fought back, exp. Bakal who came on as a sup made the differnce and scored 2

Roda JC - Vitesse ; 3-0 ‘easy win for the guys from Kerkrade, oda looks a better team since Atteveld is gone; Vitesse will have a hard time staying up this year

Fc Twente - Sparta ; 6-2 ; This was Fc Twente’s week, good win in Europe, easy win at home, Mclaren has a very strong team

AZ - Heracles ; 2-0 ; AZ had a pretty hard time but in the end they just had too much quality not to win.. AZ again has a great change of winning the title

Fc Volemdam - Ajax ; 1-2 ; Ajax played a very poor first half but got better in the second, Volemdam just is not good enough for De Eredivisie

Feyenoord - De Graafschap ; 1-3 ; again a shock result for Verbeek, things are starting to look grim for Feyenoord, first talks about Verbeek is starting in the media

NAC - Fc Den Haag ; 0-4 ; after losing 7 in a row Den Haag finally took 3 points, this is NAC 2nd loss n a row

NEC - Fc Utrecht ; 1-2 ; after playing in Europe (with the great result in Moskou) NEC had not enough energy left to win this game

Willem II - Heerenveen ; 1-3 ; Heerenveen was far too strong for Willem II, esp. at the back things start to look better for Heerenveen

Standings;

1.AZ ; 32
2.Ajax ; 29
3.Fc Twente ; 27
4.NAC ; 26
5.PSV ; 25
6.Fc Groningen ; 23
7.Heernveen ; 23
8.NEC ; 22
9.Fc Utrecht ; 21
10.Willem II ; 21
11.Feyenoord ; 16
12.Heracles ; 16
13.Sparta ; 15
14.Fc Den Haag ; 13
15.Roda JC ; 13
16.Geaafschap ; 12
17.Vitesse ; 11
18. Volemdam ; 7

Greatest moment;

@Goose: the fact that NAC is still struggling with some injuries (like Amoah) apart, that was a great result for Den Haag to keep Nacompetitie-zone from being closer, huh? Great day for Knopper.

@Jan: I know you, as a Feyenoord fan, put a lot of faith on the new generation (Wijnaldinho, Fer, Biseswar, and more recently Luis Pedro). But let’s face it: it’s not working this season. If it was, Feyenoord would be already battling for a spot on the UEFA Cup-playoffs at Eredivisie, don’t you think? Of course it doesn’t mean the youngsters are not talented. But putting them and thinking they’ll solve everything is not the solution. Arsene Wenger do this masterly, but even in Arsenal people are starting to claim about him… I hope it doesn’t happen with Gertjan. He deserves to stay at De Kuip, he seems like a good and honest coach.

And I forgot to write: if I had to bet all my money - which is few - on an Eredivisie winner, I’d put it on AZ. They’re being more efficient than Ajax and NAC and Twente. By far.

Even when the team don’t play good, like against the Almelöers, the attack duo El Hamdaoui-Ari take advantage of the chances. Always. Last but not least, Romero is a good goalie, Moisander is doing great at back, Schaars is returning to the playing pace from 2006 U-21 European, when people appointed him as a possible “future captain to Oranje”…

Guys….a funny thing…van der Meyde played with Everton a few minutes today!!! What happened to that guy?????!!!!

He had talent but he had not played an official game since April 2007. Poor guy.

Another thing…do you think Huntelaar will have more success than Ruud at Madrid and in the National Team???

@Mario - was a big fan of vdMeyde but he went to Inter too soon and then lost it. Moyes is a great coach but he has had enough of vdM’s nightlife blunder after blunder. vdM keeps promsing to rehab but so far hasn’t shown anything that once made him walk side by side (if not better) than Wesley Raf and Heitinga at Ajax. Really a guy that went from Inter to Winter n one season.

Here’s some info/history on Andy vdM

In the summer of 2006, van der Meyde proved once again to be the centre of much speculation regarding his future, having failed to properly settle at Everton, making only 11 appearances in his first season thanks to a combination of injuries and rumours of alcoholism. He staunchly denied any such allegations and reaffirmed his commitment to Everton in June 2006, stating “I want to stay, I am desperate to stay. I love it here. Everything suits my game. I’m happy in England and I want to show everyone that I can really play football. If I get the chance next season, I will do it.

Van der Meyde was admitted to hospital in the early hours of August 7, with breathing problems. It was claimed that his drink had been spiked whilst in a bar in Liverpool. He was fined by Everton for breach of discipline. To further add to a miserable week, his house was burgled during Everton’s friendly with Athletic Bilbao five days later. His Ferrari, Mini Cooper, and dog were amongst the items stolen. The cars and pet dog were since found, although the Ferrari had its windscreen smashed.[3] In March 2007, van der Meyde accused manager David Moyes of telling ‘downright lies’ in regard to his fitness. He apologised afterwards.
His story is NOT finished I am sure…….

Ferrari?

FERRARI???

Shouldn’t a player win two CL’s, reach the QF of a world cup and have a consistent career of 8 years at top level to earn a bloody Ferrari??
