Seedorf or Van Gol best Madrid player?

March 6th, 2008 | By: Jan | 12 Comments »

Madrid fans get to pick the Best Player of Real Madrid Ever, as off this Thursday. Both Clarence Seedorf and Ruud van Nistelrooy are nominated as the only Dutch players. John Metgod, Arjen Robben, Roy Drenthe and Wes Sneijder haven’t yet made the cut. Alongside greats like Michel, Butraguenio, Puskas, Di Stefano, Raul and Zinedine Zidane our fellow country men could be picked and honoured with streets named after them…

Seedorf played for Madrid from 1996 - 2000 and snatched a CL win in 1998. Ruud van Gol is in his second season with the Merenguez and helped them win the title last season with 24 goals.

Neither of them should make it, and if they do something is wrong. Di Stefano basically was European Football back in the 50’s, and the same could go to Puskas. Zidane was unstoppable while playing at Madrid, and Raul, Mr Madrid, should be high up too. Clarence was good when he was with Madrid, and Van nistelrooij’s been shining, but neither of them can compare to the others.

Has to be DiStefano. Why do they even bother to vote? If Spaniards have internet connections (outside of Barca), it is already a done deal.

I disagree, I think it’s a no brainer for Cannavaro. All he did was show up last year and lead them to out of the desert to a Championship.

Gunter - are you serious?? You think it was all Cannavaro last season?? Are you his biggest fan ever or what? He wasn’t even at his best form last season. Sure, he helped out to win the championship, but you can’t say it was single handed, or that he was even the biggest contributor. I’d say Ruud and Robinho did the most to lead them to the championship. And there’s no way Cannavaro can match up with Di Stefano…

It’s nice that Ruud and Clarence made it on the list, but I don’t think they really have a chance, or should have a chance, like dirk said.

Hehe, I agree completely Caleb, but I’d say that Casillas did more than Robinho. Cannavaro was pretty wack though..

Oh yeah, how could I forget about Casillas! You’re right Simon, he did a lot too. I guess it’s because he always does a lot, and has been doing it for many years at Madrid already, so it’s easy to forget about him.

Gunter - wow, I’m surprised at the quick turn around! I’m not used to people on the internet changing their minds like that, haha :-)
