Same old rant
Criticizing American football journalism is quickly becoming a habit. While searching for news on a daily basis its customary to find several news sources sharing the same story. By typing “Dutch ‘van Basten’” into the Google News search this afternoon I came up with no less than 17 American news sites with the article, “Group C May Be Toughest in Tournament” all posted within a half hour of each other. I’m likely blowing this out of proportion and ignoring similar occurances within other countries but this just pushed my “Complain about American Journalism” button again. The article itself is fine and serves up the usual repetoire of “best team to never win” and “Dutch players are cranky” bits.
I’m now going to try and digest this interview with Landycakes. Presumably those submitting the questions are soccer fans deeply interested in the footballing fortunes of their pride and joy, Lanny Primadonovan. Right and Bud is the beer of choice for all self-respecting German football fans.

Reminder Mike, The American media really doesn’t care about soccer at all, and they only post a general story for everyone to run so that they don’t look completely ignorant towards the biggest played sport in all of the world.

Lol, I know. Like I said, I pretty much beat the issue to death on a regular basis.

What exactly is the problem? A wire service writes a story, newspapers pick it up. That’s how things work. Seriously, I don’t get what’s to critique here.

I just have a long standing problem with American Football Journalism. There is very little of it to begin with and what does exist is fairly poor. That’s all.

That’s fair enough, although at least in the print media, the standards are much higher than, say, the UK press.
And that still doesn’t explain why anyone would have a problem with newspapers picking up a wire story.
