Ruud van Nistelrooy thinks about Oranje
In the Telegraaf newspaper, Ruud van Nistelrooy spoke openly about Oranje and Marco van Basten. The Real Madrid striker thinks he can still be important for the team.
“Marco was here in Madrid to sort of bury the hatchet, you know. To find closure for what happened at the WC. The things he said publically about me and all the humbug that followed from that. And I obviously liked that. I wanted that too.”
“But I also hoped to hear something positive about the future. About his plans with me. Not that I wanted a guaranteed starting position or something. I mean, I have been through a lot in professional football and I know there are no guarantees. I don’t need anything. The only thing I hoped for was some sort of feeling, some idea from him with regards to myself and Oranje. I wanted to get the feel that we could work together again, you know. With my experience I think I can still be of value to the team. We have very talented but also very young players. I think I could add something to it.
I called Van Basten recently about this and discussed this. He’s a guy you can talk to, in that way, you know. I wouldn’t call him otherwise. I wanted to get his ideas and get a feeling for his thoughts on this. You see, if a coach is very thickheaded and tough as nails (he doesn’t mention Ferguson’s name, but it’s clear what type of coach RvN is referring to…) these type of talks are fruitless. Won’t get you anywhere. But Van Basten is not like that. Sokme people think Van Basten is an icecold guy, he isn’t. You can talk to him. But I just don’t want to end up like Van Bommel, because like it didn’t work for Mark, it won’t work for me… Being part of the team this match, being out next match, then being back this match… It wouldn’t work for me…

Ruud is a mature player with great soccer skills. He has to be in the national team for Euro 08 and then if the ageing respects him perhaps he could still be valuable to the team. His presence make the team look stronger and he is so tough mentally that I can´t believe what happened with him and Marco…Marco did not give him enough confidence so if Ruud is going to be back he has to be first choice every time.Huntelaar can be good competition but Kuyt is not close to that level, Kuyt is a hard working man and has goal but Ruud is a natural killer with a great instinct for goal. If Ruud and van Bommel come back and Clarence Seedorf gets a starting role and when van Persie is back from injury then the Oranje will look completely different but if we are to see that happening maybe the only thing or the only person that is interrupting that is San Marco…I have nothing against van Basten but so much quality can´t be wasted. Van Persie is crucial to the team and he has the potential to be a huge world soccer star but it will be good for him to have the experienced guys beside him just like he had Bergkamp at Arsenal and Henry, would be sweet to have another experienced star as Ruud playing with him but we all know the story.
I really would love to see Ruud van Nistelrooy scoring goals for Holland because he deserves it. Ruud is the best goalscorer of today´s game, he might not be as spectacular as Henry or Cristiano Ronaldo in his style of play but his goalscoring record is amazing and nobody could argue that.

True. Marco said in a tv interview…
“Ruud was welcome with us again, but he didn’t want to. He missed something, some warmth or something like that…” shaking his hands…
That is the mark of a manager who doesn’t understand what his individual star players need…
Not good.

Yeah, he thinks that to be a great player they all have to be as cool as vanBasten was himself…he never needed extra attention (though he got it from Cruijff) and so he thinks others should act and feel the same as him…this is a great mistake as we have seen the last couple of years
