Ruud off to a winning start

August 13th, 2006 | By: Mike | 6 Comments »

Over the summer the Dutch have seen a number of their stars, past and present, shuffle around a little with Stam and Davids returning to Ajax and van Nistelrooy going off Madrid. One always hopes that they find success wherever they go and at least Ruud has had a good start to his new chapter.

Real Madrid were on tour in the United States cashing in on what is turning out to be a lucrative market for pre-season with Barcelona breaking the record for football attendance during one of their U.S. matches (I think the figure was ~96 000 or so). In his first match Ruud played an integral part in Madrid’s 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake. He scored the first from a penatly after Cassano had been fouled and later put through Robinho to seal up the win.

I hope Ruud continues his success in his new home. He really is one of the purest strikers I’ve ever seen. There is no compromise in his game and I hope that serves him well in the future.

agree Mike,it would be great if Ruud could show Marco’s wrong in not selecting him..

would be surprised though if Ruud makes a big impression, dont now have this feeling that Real is just not his team (hope im wrong)

A poll showed the other day that 80% of the Dutch football fans say Marco is WRONG… Oh, and eh…sorry to disappoint everyone but Davids did not return to Ajax…

Mike/Jan, just learned that one of the greatest dutch footballers of all time has passed away at 82, Faas Wilkes (second on my list)
hes regarded as the first real professional football players in Holland. He moved to Inter in 1949 being only the third dutchman ever to go abroad.. cause of his problems with the KNVB who only selected amateur players for the national team he only managed to get to 38 caps but he scored 35 goals for Oranje!!!!!
He was also Cruijffs favo player..

great loss
