Ruud no. 6 on Dutch topscorers list

June 17th, 2006 | By: Jan | 4 Comments »

With his liberating goal against CdI yesterday, Ruud van Nistelrooy took the 6th place – with Bep Bakhuis ( scored between 1928 and 1937) – on Oranje’s topscorers’ list with his 28th goal. Ruud only has Johan Cruyff (33 goals), Abe Lenstra (33), Faas Wilkes (35), Dennis Bergkamp (37) and Patrick Kluivert (40) before him. The question to you… Will he get to the No. 1 position?

It’s a shame that he wasn’t called up sooner (2004 was his first right?)

That’s right. But as I said, he had injuries – the big one in 2000 kept him from joining ManU a year before he eventually did – and Louis van Gaal blundered as coach in 2002, so we missed the WC. Ruud was furious about that…

No, I don’t think he will ever be #1. He hasn’t put in performances quite like Bergkamp or Kluivert ever did for the Dutch. He’s capable but its too late on in his career I think.
