Ruud Focused

May 11th, 2006 | By: Mike | 8 Comments »

After all my worrying and hemming and hawing about Ruud not being focused on his task ahead, at last I have reassurance. Also, I’m always impressed by Ruud towards other younger players. It always seems he is putting aside the possibility of the player taking over his own position and instead likes to help the player, coach the player and make sure they are confident and playing well.

He did this a lot at United for 19 year old Guiseppe Rossi and now he seems to have taken Huntelaar under his wing. Not that the Ajax boy needs help scoring goals but Ruud’s experience at such a high level will be invaluable.

And a related article; van Basten and Keane’s opinion on the matter.

Hey, Mike. Nice articles on vNistelrooy.

Do you know if that last bit in the second one is correct? It says that since he won’t ask to be transferred that he will be entitled to a payout for two years of his contract.

I thought that ManU could just sell him to the highest bidder..

Ya, that caught my eye too. I’m not sure. I can’t imagine that United wouldn’t want to cash in on Ruud.

Daniel — I think that a player has to agree to a deal. When Liverpool bought Harry Kewell for £3m from Leeds, Leeds had had better offers from other clubs. But Kewell wanted to go to Liverpool, so he simply didn’t agree terms with any other club. Leeds had to take what Liverpool were offering or not sell him.

Ruud doesn’t seem like the kind of guy to do that to a club, especially one that he has had such a great four years with.

Completely off thread: my Dutch is pretty shakey, but Beenhakker (as in T&T coach, Leo) translates, as far as I know, as ‘limb cutter’. Is that his real name? Was he hard-man centre back a la 1970’s Chelsea hero Ron ‘Chopper’ Harris? Just a thought.

Mike — I’m not saying he would, just that players get the final word.

Ya, that’s true. “Personal terms” are always the last little stumbling block.
