Rumblings

Ruud could be moving to the OTHER Milan. You know the one, the consistently under-whelming and under-performing Inter Milan. I don’t think that’s a great move. That team just never seems to go anywhere: up or down! Everyone thought they’d be dangerous when they bought Adriano from Parma but nope, nothing changed despite having one of the most dangerous strikers. Bad idea.

Ruud is also linked with Newcastle along with Dutch strike partner Dirk Kuyt. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: Newcastle is a black hole into which all kinds of good players get sucked and ultimately ruined. Emre, Luque, Boumsong, Milner, Kluivert and Owen.

Didn’t real madrid show interest in him last year? what happened, they don’t want him anymore? Going to Inter Milan is gonna be the worst move ever for him…

I think that story came amidst every player in the world being linked with Madrid. Its a disease that starts around then end of May every year for some reason.

we can also play 4_4_2,with robben ad van nsitelrooy in attack and vander vaart behind them and then sneijder cocu and maduro in the midfield, to tell you the truth i didn’t like van bommel’s performance against arsenal, i wouldn’t include him.

Hmmm. it’s going to be a hard sell to v Basten, this 442 plan of yours :-). Although in ‘88, our first and only chamnpiosnhip, we did play 442 with one Marco Di Basti in the team…
But no, it won’t work. I agree with Cruyff, the numbers don’t add up in 442, the number of passing options is much better in the triangle-based 433. We don’t have right midfielders who can play the midfielders game AND can penetrate the open right flank… Seedorf, Bommel, Sneijder, Landzaat… Not their game. Castelen could, though. In the past Vanenburg could. So, 4-3-3, MArco. I know you’re lurking in here, so pay attention!!!

can someone tell me why van basten has picked some of these players for the squad! his policy is to pick players that are playing regulary for their clubs! are kromkamp, heitinga, van persie and babel? no!

I dunno. he picked these guys for a reason. they might have played good football in the past few months. anyways, i have most faith in the team. Lets leave the picking and deciding to the coach now?

I just watched a replay of the FA cup final between Liverpool and West Ham. Krompkamp was looking really sharp. I really won’t be too surprised if he plays every game this summer..

@carrington
V Basten’s theory is: the best players (best, not just in skills, but also discipline and personaloity) for the position. He really wants players that are regulars in the resp. line-ups, but if there aren’t any better options he will pick the ones who don’t play often. He wants to stick to his tactical guns.

Yes Jan
Basten’s team is tactical, disciplined and high team spirit.
Did you notice many teams are not perpared to defend 433 syste.Their attacking side backs are not tight markers and leave our two attacking wingers un-marked (witch CL final again Etoo and Guily always have free space at the wings).
433 alway outnumbered at the mid-field and every managers knows to layout 5 mid-fielders against 433.
Rijkaart had the solutions and won while Advocaat didn’t have against Portugals.
Would Basten prepared for that?
Anyway its going tio be an exciting tactical displays.

The thing with national teams is, that a coach does not have the time and resources to actually train their players to play according to a certain game plan, unless they are all accustomed to that particular gameplan already. And Advocaat’s mistake was, to just put the names on a piece and paper and let the players take care of it. Basten looks closely at the tactical experience and know how. Huntelaar has always played in a 442 system, until he went to play for Ajax - although Ajax these days doesn’t play the real 433 even - and v Basten picks players (Babel, Kromkamp) who have been trained according to the Dutch School concept.

yes, i think van basten is going to give us a good team and very well organized, with advocaat, i had the feeling that we normal people could better than him in euro 2004. he had tremendous players but he did nothing to make them play as a team.

And so it goes folks, that is why advocaat is not coach of the Oranje team. But anyways, im still surpised holland got that far without any major tacticall coaching. i was proud of the holland team in 2004, but ashamed of the coach. To bad most players of that team now really have aged.. and i would have loved to see Patrick Kluivert in the team, no matter what he is been through. That guy had it in him to play football, but somehow, it would be doomed. Injuries, personal relationships. Man, Kluivert is my hero. he was 8 years ago, and he still is now. Sorry, but i just had to say that. It’s a shame so many good players turn out broken..

Hi Dutch fans,

Ruud is a great goal scorer and moving to Inter would be great for both. Adriano is the reason why Inter won nothing this year. I followed Inter this year they’re as good as Juve and AC milan. Against Juve, they failed because of the referee…. (That’s real, I dont invent because of current events) Against Milan, they won the first game, and in the second (same reason against Villareal) there was NO goleador. You’ll see trust me Inter is going to win a lot of titles within the next 5 years.

i totally agree with you man, kluivert is a great player, he was very unlucky lately, but still we won’t forget him, how can we forget that goal against brazil in the last minute in 1998,and how can we foget his goals against ireland in the playoff for euro 1996. i feel bad for him that he is always injured and always have problems.

Aahhh…thosem musings… I would have loved to see Kluivert as shadow striker behind Ruud. And Rafael next to him, great. He could have been the greatest… Cruyff recently applauded him after seeing him at work again, so there’s hope!

yes, there is always hope, but is it enough to see him reach the level of football he enjoyed playing so much. Thanks alaa, so im not the only that thinks kluivert is a great player. when someone talks about kluivert, they only remember that he does not his top game anymore, and shouldnt be picked for the world cup. which is a shame. Kluivert stands for holland, the goal in the last minute against brazil, what gave holland hope. He is a symbol for all of this, and non of the people should be forgetting that. Lets hope he is doing ol, and is happy with what he is doing. cheers guys

No worries, I’m back and ready to go. Things might be a little sporadic yet for a couple of days until things settle down but the quake is over and those will only be after-shocks.

And about Kluivert. Anyone remember the scoreline: Kluivert 4 - 0 Yugoslavia? That was probably one of my favourite perfomances by the team in general and by a player. And with Overmars being my hero it was icing on the cake for him to get a brace.
