This is when he'll show his real personality and I'm sure he'll fight back and show how good he's.

good point bobotoh

think the mental aspect will get more and more important since football is getting bigger and bigger and the presures rise

but we can never blame Drenthe for going to Madrid ; if Madrid calls you say "yes please" (and Feyenoord was happy also)

@Finnster - I'll definitely agree with that - I think a no-nonsense summer with Hunter's dad would do a lot of people good, haha. Parents certainly play a big role in the mentality of their kids.

Bobotoh has a good point. I agree.

I actually believe before anyone super talented with attitude leaves Holland they should be forced to spend a no-nonsense summer with Hunters dad. I think that will sort their heads out, and although I am a little concerned about Hunters playing time, if anyone can handle it, it is him. I think he is already proving the point despite play time.

And I fully believe it all starts at home!! Van Persie's parents were probably decent too, but there is a bit of a diffrence between two Rotterdam artists and old school Gelderland/Tukkers...

Young players should not go to Madrid. Young players should go to Ajax. That's the best place to start a career as as a pro. Madrid is a place for superstars. So, for a young player like Drenthe, it is a mistake moving to Madrid. Too young to go there. The pressure is too high.

@Finnster - I'd make an exception with Barton :-) but barring that fans should realize that booing your own players just makes the team play worse and so it's just making the situation worse.

For the record: I don't like Drenthe. I do not know him personally of course, but my opinion on him is based on what I see, hear and read through media, like most of us. I don't like his attitude, he thinks of himself as he is Messi, or better than him (the Olympics!), but he can't match up to his level. He wants to prove himself to much; Drenthe's big problem is (or was) his big ego... some modesty will do him fine and if he can except that, he will be a better person and at the end a better player. Oh, well, he's still young, he isn't in his prime, yet.

@Caleb: Yes I agree with you on the booing. But then again, with the salaries these chaps are carrying they should be able to handle that. In addition, what do you do with a guy like Joey Barton who is a convicted felon? You go to a game with your kid and you look at this guy as a role model?

I think booing your own player will never help, but I do believe there are some out there that may actually deserve it based on their own selfish behaviour. And Drenthe may just be one of them.

It's always sad and angering to hear stories like this - "fans" booing their own players. It really doesn't make sense to me, and the "fans" that do this are real idiots in my opinion. Especially since Drenthe was actually playing pretty well earlier this year - one of Real's best players when the rest of the team was looking pretty bad. Wouldn't be surprised if a lot of these so-called fans are actually just racist like Alex suggested before.
