Royston Drenthe stressed out!

Klaas Jan Huntelaar started for Real Madrid and scored his first goal, while Royston Drenthe stayed at home, surrounded and supported by his family.
The ex-Feyenoord man isn’t well. For the third week, Drenthe wasn’t part of Ramos’ selection, this time for the match against Sporting Gijon.
Offically, there were tactical reasons for Ramos to leave Drenthe home, but normally the Dutchman would be part of the group, what with five injured players and one suspended player (Van der Vaart). Seems like enough room for Drenthe.
According to sources with Madrid, it was the player himself who asked Ramos not to select him. Drenthe apparently has sleeping-issues and suffers from stress.
Some insiders it has to do with the illness of a family member. Others claim that Drenthe can’t handle the pressure, with the Real fans booing his every action, like they did against Deportivo last month.
“It’s not cool to play in your home stadium and feel like you’re playing in Camp Nou. I need the support of the fans to play good football, to win games,” Drenthe said last Friday in Marca.
In the Deportivo game, Drenthe came onto the pitch and was boo-ed even before he touched a ball. The 21 year old almost burst into tears…
Even at training games, Drenthe is booed. Last week, Rral played against Castilla as a warm up game. Drenthe scored a beauty from a setpiece and again, it was all vitriol and piss that the fans had to offer him…
El Pais quoted one of Madrid’s coaches: “He’s not capable to play at the moment, mentally. He puts too much pressure on himself. He wants to do it all. He wants to prove himself. Taking care of the ball, team mates and the opponents. He sort of overtakes himself and because he wants to do too much, he does everything half… He makes all sorts of mistakes because of it…”
Drenthe moved to Madrid for 14 million euros in the summer of 2007. He played regularly due to injuries of others but since the game against Barca, in which he missed a sitter, he hardly played.

heard the same story here in Holland … that it was Drenthe’s own choice to not play (always thought the manager made such discissions?)
almost feel sorry for Drenthe ..
maybe he should stop rapping and being the Getto-guy and concentrate on playing football

Does Drenthe rap??? That would be way to cliche to not laugh out loud about.
Too bad for the Madrid fans ruining this lad’s career. He should get out out of there and go back to Feyenoord where he will be loved and get some play.

Drenthe was just on a dutch tv program called Holland Sport, they made a special with all the dutchies
they had a 1 on 1 with Drenthe and he was very open… he told that he doesnt feel good, that he is afraid to make mistakes and that he will look for professional mental help .. he even said something like : ” lots of people want something from me, esp. out of football, i thought i handled it well, maybe i was wrong and maybe a professional can show me how to handle everthing the right way”
@Jason ; sure Drenthe raps ..the video was posted before .. : here it is:

It’s always sad and angering to hear stories like this – “fans” booing their own players. It really doesn’t make sense to me, and the “fans” that do this are real idiots in my opinion. Especially since Drenthe was actually playing pretty well earlier this year – one of Real’s best players when the rest of the team was looking pretty bad. Wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of these so-called fans are actually just racist like Alex suggested before.

@Caleb: Yes I agree with you on the booing. But then again, with the salaries these chaps are carrying they should be able to handle that. In addition, what do you do with a guy like Joey Barton who is a convicted felon? You go to a game with your kid and you look at this guy as a role model?
I think booing your own player will never help, but I do believe there are some out there that may actually deserve it based on their own selfish behaviour. And Drenthe may just be one of them.

For the record: I don’t like Drenthe. I do not know him personally of course, but my opinion on him is based on what I see, hear and read through media, like most of us. I don’t like his attitude, he thinks of himself as he is Messi, or better than him (the Olympics!), but he can’t match up to his level. He wants to prove himself to much; Drenthe’s big problem is (or was) his big ego… some modesty will do him fine and if he can except that, he will be a better person and at the end a better player. Oh, well, he’s still young, he isn’t in his prime, yet.

ofcourse the Madrid crowd is pretty spoiled … its much like going to the theatre; just sit and enjoy… but his image doenst help
funny thing on the show yesterday i forgot to tell
the programm had an interview with di Stefano..they asked him about Drenthes problems and they asked if he had any advise.. he said: “Drenthe needs to go to the hairdresser!! people in Madrid want ‘clean’players!! hahaha… the interviewer showed Drenthe the tape and he was not amused.. he said: ” i love my hair, i like to look at it in the mirror each day” hahahaha … lost after all

@Finnster – I’d make an exception with Barton
but barring that fans should realize that booing your own players just makes the team play worse and so it’s just making the situation worse.

Young players should not go to Madrid. Young players should go to Ajax. That’s the best place to start a career as as a pro. Madrid is a place for superstars. So, for a young player like Drenthe, it is a mistake moving to Madrid. Too young to go there. The pressure is too high.

Bobotoh has a good point. I agree.
I actually believe before anyone super talented with attitude leaves Holland they should be forced to spend a no-nonsense summer with Hunters dad. I think that will sort their heads out, and although I am a little concerned about Hunters playing time, if anyone can handle it, it is him. I think he is already proving the point despite play time.
And I fully believe it all starts at home!! Van Persie’s parents were probably decent too, but there is a bit of a diffrence between two Rotterdam artists and old school Gelderland/Tukkers…

@Finnster – I’ll definitely agree with that – I think a no-nonsense summer with Hunter’s dad would do a lot of people good, haha. Parents certainly play a big role in the mentality of their kids.

good point bobotoh
think the mental aspect will get more and more important since football is getting bigger and bigger and the presures rise
but we can never blame Drenthe for going to Madrid ; if Madrid calls you say “yes please” (and Feyenoord was happy also)

This is when he’ll show his real personality and I’m sure he’ll fight back and show how good he’s.
