Roy Makaay does too much and gets nothing…

Statistically, Makaay is one of the greatest. He can easily be mentioned in the same sentence as…Van Basten, Van Nistelrooy, Muller, Shearer, Rush, Raul, Batistuta, Inzaghi…
He scored everywhere. For Vitesse, Deportivo, Bayern Munich… Sit down with him in a cafe and talk. He knows all his goals from his entire career. He can sum up entire parts of big games and analyses every team from the English, Spanish or German competition. A football professor. A talker, even…
Makaay is a football nut and one of the best strikers we ever developed. Period!
But then there’s reality. Last Sunday. After 29 minutes against Ajax, he suddenly plays left back. Is being humiliated, falls over, gets up and is way too late to support the Feyenoord counter attack.
Makaay was useless, Sunday. For all to see. He threw the ball in, took set pieces, put his thumb up 43 times to mates, coached, gestured, but never did he get one playable ball from his team mates.
His day was ruined when he heard that Tomasson couldn’t play. Again, Roy needed to do it all alone. By himself. And he can’t. And he knows. Makaay is the killer striker, that needs a team around him that allows him to shine. A team that knows how to service him.
They know in Amsterdam. In 2004, Ajax played against Bayern Munich and Hargreaves and Ballack played 100% for the Dutch striker. He scored three goals and Bayern won 4-0. Everyone with a Bayern jersey played in his service. And it worked.
Leo Beenhakker and Mario Been need to be able to find a balance for Makaay to shine. Although there’s also the chance that Feyenoord will sign the striker. Because Makaay is probably the only player rich clubs will want to sign. The Phantom will score prolifically again, when the right team is formed around him…

speaking of goal scorers look at this
this move to madrid might actually work out

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuP2dFi9czU not the cleanest of finishes but still he came on a sub and scored and hit the post with a header

The commentator at the Ajax/Feyenoord match said that “Amongst others, Makaay was told by Feyenoord that he was STR !!!” Thats polite for “Surplus to Requirements”. I was wondering if he was right as I thought Makaay still has a few good years ahead of him.

Oh yeah… When a player like Makaay scores always and everywhere except in Rotterdam, while the club is in trouble, the coach sacked, players injured, etc etc…it’s not hard to conclude that it’s probably not Makaay’s fault.
There’s absolutely no support for Makaay in Feyenoord. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me…
