Robben on a slippery slope

April 29th, 2006 | By: Mike | No Comments »

I just finished watching the Chelsea, United game. Credit to Chelsea they played well and owned the midfield. The thing is I was forced to watch the Chinese “liberated” video feed and I put on the live United commentary I subscribe to. The thing that struck me most was the way the announcers spoke about Robben. The commentator actually had a rare lapse in composure blurting out, “Well why don’t you book him REF!!” after a suspect slip by the Dutchmen. Maybe I’ve been out of touch, but is this extreme negative repuatation that widespread? I would say that Robben went to ground as often as Ronaldo who was the single most fouled player last season. Remember I’m a United fan.

Robben
With that out of the way, I’m routinely impressed by his pace and dribbling abilities. Mind you he couldn’t hit the broad side of the Blatterdome today.
