Robben Man of the Match again

June 17th, 2006 | By: Jan | 2 Comments »

A formal FIFA jury has again elected Arjen Robben as Man of the Match, after Holland - Cote d’Ivoire. A bit surprising, really, after the gifted performance of Robin van Persie, goalscorer, mercury like attacker and assistent to Edwin van der Sar… Robben: “To be honest, I bribed one of those guys on the jury…”.
To continue on a serious note: “No really, it is always good to get personal awards like that, but again…it was a team effort and we worked very very hard to get and hold on to this result.”
Van Persie’s reaction may follow later :-)

Robben was an odd choice. He played well–but everyone but Fifa seems to agree that Van Persie should have got the nod–especially given that he scored the first goal and saved the tying goal. Those alone are a day’s good work, and he did much more than that. Oh, well.
