Rob Rijnink
Specially for Caleb

This is Rob Rijnink (not Reinink). He played two seasons for Ajax 1 - came through Ajax’ youth development system - and was considered a huge new talent. He had a very good shot in his feet and scored in his first match for the Sons of the Gods. However, he got in trouble (don’t ask me why, but he was hard to manage) and was rented out to Roda JC. He played 17 matches for Ajax and only 2 for Roda JC. He left Roda, then played for AZ and later for VVV Venlo (all on a rental basis).
I don’t know where he is now. I remember seeing him making his debut and he definitely could play. He also had the aura of a leader, demanding the ball and directing the play… So, was your dad’s name Reinink or Rijnink? Did he play football in Holland? We’d like to learn more…
(I feel like that host from “Opsporing Verzocht”…)

Huge thanks! My dad’s name was Reinink, not Rejnink, so not quite the same, but it will still make an interesting story to tell him. My dad wasn’t a footballer in Holland though.. unless there is some part of his history he never told me.. like that he used to be a young talented footballer at Ajax, had a big falling out, moved away from Holland, changed his name slightly and raised a family… but the picture doesn’t really look like him, so I don’t so.
But I’ll take this chance to say that I just recently found this site and I now I love coming here to get the latest news on Dutch football. Great site, thanks for all the hard work!

Sure thing. I don’t live in Holland, but my blood is dutch so I’ve got an opinion on most things, so I’m sure I’ll have more comments in the future, haha.
