I said I wouldn’t do this every match day but for now, one glance at the standings give me the motivation to share the news… Feyenoord keeps winning :-)!
But the best news comes from Spain, where Super Sneijder ( I didn’t make this up!) led Real Madrid to their 5-0 win over Atletico Madrid. Sneijder’s cross enabled Raul to score the 1-o. Then it was 2-0 by our little captain on midfield from a free kick, securing the three point for the champs. Ruud van Nistelrooy (who? Oh him…
) scored the 3-0 after which Wesley S. scored a beauty with his outside right foot. Van Gol gave the velvety assist on Guti who completed the five goals. Sneijder received a late applause replacing by coach Schuster, who let Drenthe start. Robben is still not match fit. (Who? oh him…)
The big guns start to spill points already. PSV couldn’t get past a stronger FC Twente, last Saturday, while Ajax couldn’t shrug off their dread after losing against Prague. FC Groningen seemed a tough side to beat. Former Groningen strikers Suarez did score the 1-0 for Ajax but Suarez successor Berg scored twice for Groningen. It took Ajax a lot of time and three replacements (Luque came on but obviously missed rhythm. A lot of rhythm.) only for Huntelaar to score the equalizer in the dying seconds. The crowd was very very unhappy with Ajax’ performance and demanded Henk ten Cate’s head. Again.
AZ had easily defeated Excelsior earlier in the weekend although they already spilled points last week.
Feyenoord only had to perform for 45 minutes against Willem II. Sahin’s crosspass was brilliantly controlled by Luigi Bruins, 1-0. Roy Makaay scored his third goal this competition for the 2-0 and final score. Henk Timmer stopped a Willem II penalty in the second half. Feyenoord didn’t play great but at least kept the zero, as we say in Holland, and knew how to finish off the game without getting in trouble.
So Feyenoord leads, with Aad de Mos’ Vitesse. Ajax and PSV are 3 and 4. Roda JC is 5 and AZ is 6.
I’d say: stop the competition now and let’s party…
Dirk Kuyt and Ryan Babel were instrumental in Liverpool’s goal-fest in the EPL and HSV Hamburg (without Raf but with De Jong, Mathijsen and Castelen) kept Bayern Munich at bay. Barca won and entertained the fans in their win this weekend

Watched the Real Madrid game last night. Sneijder was large and in charge. Clearly the best player on the pitch. (Did I call it in my year predictions? I know, I know, its still very early, but the signs are very good…) Sneijder had two very very nice goals and a spot on cross to Raul’s foot for the Madrid’s first goal. Van Nistelrooy also played very well and scored a typical Ruud goal and passed well too. Drenthe was not so good. A few giveaways while he played on defence, and when Schuster pushed him into midfield in the later part of the game he blew a few chances, particularly completley slicing a shot while on a near breakaway in the dying seconds of the game… He’ll play better next game….
Any news on when Robben will be fit to play? I’m looking forward to day when their are four Dutchman leading Real to consecutive Championships….

Great news on Feyenoord, They are on a run, Jan I believe that they have yet to allow a goal, I could be wrong. I hope Sniejder plays like that against Bulgaria. Former Feyenoord, Dirk Kuyt is playing well for Liverpool. I saw his two goals last week and that fabulous cross to Crouch.
I am watching the Clemson University- Florida State U. US college football game,
