Referees influence Ajax and Feyenoord games…
It isn’t the first time and it definitely won’t be the last…
Ajax lost against FC Twente this weekend (2-1) and can kiss the title goodbye. Even more so, more spilling of points could get Ajax in a tough spot to secure CL qualifications next season. Theoretically, that is. And Feyenoord could have been the new number two, but they lost to Rotterdam’s number 2, Sparta (3-2).
And two refs didn’t sleep too well…
Ajax was looking at a draw (1-1) with merely seconds to go against Twente when Suarez was tackled in the box by goalie Boschker. A clear penalty! But not according to the ref. He let the play resume, only for Twente to score the winner in the following counter attack. Adrie Koster: “We’ve been robbed!”
Feyenoord on the other hand, saw a clear goal by man-of-the-match Luigi Bruins (maybe he deserves a spot at the EC?) disallowed for totally vague reasons while Sparta captain and former Ajax-striker Boukhari scored a goal using his arm. Everyone saw this bar the ref and his linesman.
Bert van Marwijk: “I will never hide myself behind ref’s decisions, but I have got to break that principle here and now. We deserved a goal extra and they didn’t deserve the Boukhari goal. Simple. We should have won here.”
PSV had an easy win against a weakened FC Groningen (4-1) and thus PSV will secure their next title.
Ajax will have to focus on finishing fifth at least, as will Feyenoord, and the KNVB will have to think hard what to do with the quality level of reffing.
AZ drew again and the fans are really getting anxious. AZ isn’t safe from relegation. FC Utrecht has a clear view on UEFA play offs while even NEC has a chance to finish 9th.
