Punters: place your bets….

August 16th, 2007 | By: Jan | 16 Comments »

This upcoming season in the Dutch Eredivisie:

Ajax lost Sneijder and Babel. Davids injured for a while. Huntelaar misses penalties… Will they be The Chosen Ones this season?

PSV lost Alex, Cocu and some other players (I suppose…). And has Ronald Koeman :-). Will they make it in the top 3?

Feyenoord has a new lease on life with Bert van Marwijk, Roy Makaay, Kevin Hofland and many more. Can they make in their first season? Or do they need some more time to build a strong team?

AZ Alkmaar lost Showtime Arveladze, Tim De Cler… Koevermans isn’t happy but they do have Menujahin back. And the guy called Ari. And all those other players… And they have Louis “the best in the world” Van Gaal.

Or is there another outsider? Can FC Twente move forwards even more? Will Willem van Hanegem push Utrecht to the top. Will FC Groningen without Suarez be able to make the jump?

Your thoughts, bets, ideas… Who is the new champ? Topscorer? Biggest surprise? First coach to be sacked?

My 2 cents:

AZ Alkmaar champion.
Feyenoord runner up
Ajax numero three.
PSV four…

Huntelaar topscorer with Makaay number 2. Huntelaar will leave for Juve.

Koeman will leave PSV and accepts a job at Bahrein FC. Henk ten Cate will leave Ajax and Co Adriaanse will be re-installed as their coach.

Man United sign Louis van Gaal. Willem van Hanegem quits his job after 2 months. Ron Jans will move to AZ.

Biggest surprise: Wesley Sneijder fails at Real Madrid. PSV wants to sign him…

I would say Feyenoord win
AZ 2nd
PSV will beat Ajax in the match to determine 3rd place
Ajax 4th

Of course Sneijder is going to fail in the beginning in Madrid. The pressure is too high. Van the Man will talk to him, they will build up their mental strength together and Sneijder, with the help of a few other players will convince Marco to reinstate Van the Man as Striker, leaving youngster Huntelaar on the bench till he’s a bit older.

Van der Sar will perform well at MU and have strong confidence, play a great role as Captain of the dutch team and lead us to the EC in style.

Van Persie will remain fit and help Arsenal reach 3rd place in the Premiership and help the Dutch qualify for EC.

Robben, well, I can only hope he will get back to his form of 2-3 years ago. It will be hard as he will most likely only be a sub for the first third of the season. Then in November he will have a big breakthrough, help the Dutch qualify and help Chelsea take the lead of the Premiership before the winter break.

I think that’s a lot of wishful thinking, but you never know.

Feyenoord wont win. The squad is way too thin. There is only two good central defenders. Only one good central striker. Two wingers. No chance in hell. AZ might win, PSV too, but ten Cate is the wrong man for Ajax.

1-AZ, van Gaal wins before he leaves
2-Feyenoord, all the newboys pay off
3/4 PSV/Ajax, both teams severely weakened with the likes of Cocu/Alex gone and Sneijder gone, Davids injured. To many holes and question marks. Maybe somebody steps up or they sign somebody in the next couple of weeks, but as for now, this is the best they get.

Sneijder starts slow but gains momentum as the season wears on ala RvN. Drenthe hardly ever plays. Robben wherever he ends up gets a part-time role and becomes more and more a regular average joe. RvPersie shines in England and is a nominee for best player in the world.

1/2. PSV or AZ
3. Feyenoord
4. Ajax

Sneijder will be an instant hit at the Bernabeu and will thrive playing in Spain. Drenthe will play as a starter every once and awhile, but will only play in parts of games. He will be fresh and exciting.

Robben will move to Real once Chelsea can get Alves. If he stays at Chelsea he will rot. If he moves to Real he will gain a new lease on life and do very well, despite being injured for a 1/4 of the season…

Kuyt will mend a fantastic relationship with Torres and together they will score many goals and lead Liverpool to their first Championship in many years. Babel’s speed will win many fans at the Kop and will always be cheered when he comes on as a 60 minute substitute every game for the whole season. The next year he will be a regular starter…

Van Persie will be Footballer of the Year. Ruud van Nistelrooij will win the Golden Boot. Oranje will win EC08.

Mark my words….

I’ll be buggered Bruce, that is one awesome crystal ball you have there.

This sounds like a great scenario for me…only one question: will Beckham fail or succeed in LA?

Bruce, if this comes true, I will cry.

Beckham personally will succeed in LA. Whether that translates into greater American support is a whole different ballgame.

Sneijder and Drenthe will be great for Madrid and I am positive Robben will be at Madrid very soon and have a great season too.
van Persie, no doubts, he will be one of the best players of the Premiership this season and the Dutch team recovers form with our young players gaining experiencie abroad. San Marco suddenly will start playing Seedorf, Ruud, van Persie, Sneijder and the best players around and the team starts playing pretty good. The only one I think will not be in the team is van Bommel but who knows, the future looks bright.

1.psv (they always win)
2.ajax
3.az
4.feyenoord

sneijder and drenthe (with ruud) will be the motors of a new stylish real but even their talents won’t be enough for winning la liga - they will finish second, something like 10-15 points behind the champion:-) (rijkaard’s team will win everything this year.) van der vaart’s valencia will do well. real, sevilla and valencia will fight like hell for the second place.

van persie will be the big man and the topscorer of the pl. this season we will see the decline of chelsea: 1.mu,2.pool,3.arsenal (my favourite english team),4.chelsea.

and finally marco will build a great-great oranje changing his tactics into 4-2-3-1 - the starting eleven will be like this: van der saar - heitinga, donk(boulahrouz),matthijsen, emmanuelson - de zeeuw, drenthe (van bronckhorst)- seedorf (sneijder),van persie (kuyt),van der vaart (robben) - rvn (huntelaar)

and finally oranje will win the ec 08 beating italy in the final by 3-1

Goose… I have a hard time seeing FC Twente take the fifth spot… they have lost some of their key players.

@Lerkot; yes youre right, but i think Twente is just a strong organisation (like Heerenveen or Groningen) and that they can surprise any season (in the dutch legeua.. i had to put in a surprise here and there…

maybe Groningen will do better, really like their head coach Jans (who used to be a german teacher at a highschool after his footballing career), theyve come a long way since the 80’s

btw; totally agree with your comment on tenCate..hes not only the wrong man at Ajax, hes just wrong as a headcoach!! he should have stayed assistant
