Preliminary Squad - No Makaay

Marco Van Basten released the preliminary 33 man squad for the team. He still has to cut 10 men. The only surprising thing is that Makaay isn’t in the squad although as I’ve said before Klass Jan Huntelaar deserves his place too.
So here’s the squad:
Goalkeeper: Patrick Lodewijks (Feyenoord), Edwin van der Sar (Manchester United), Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax), Henk Timmer(AZ Alkmaar)
Defenders: Khalid Boulahrouz (Hamburg), Wilfred Bouma (Aston Villa), Giovanni van Bronckhorst (Barcelona), Tim de Cler (AZ), Urby Emanuelson (Ajax), Kew Jaliens (AZ), Jan Kromkamp (Liverpool), Joris Mathijsen (AZ), Andre Ooijer, Barry Opdam (AZ), Ron Vlaar (Feyenoord)
Midfielders: George Boateng (Middlesbrough), Mark van Bommel (Barcelona), Phillip Cocu (PSV), Edgar Davids (Tottenham Hotspur), Nigel De Jong (Hamburg), Denny Landzaat (AZ), Hedwiges Maduro (Ajax), Wesley Sneijder (Ajax), Rafael van der Vaart (Hamburg)
Forwards: Ryan Babel (Ajax), Romeo Castelen (Feyenoord), Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Ajax), Dirk Kuyt (Feyenoord), Martijn Meerdink (AZ), Ruud van Nistelrooy (Manchester United), Robin van Persie (Arsenal), Arjen Robben (Chelsea), Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (PSV)
Things are looking mighty grim for Roy Makaay. His season started out wonderfully with everyone talking about him breaking scoring records but since then he hasn’t found his touch. Its not completely out of the question for Makaay but he would have to hope for some injuries and a falling out or two with the manager.

Maybe Germany can fasttrack citizenship for him.
He’s better than the strikers Germany’s ready to use in 49 days.

Harvey, He’s quality but you folks can have him. Marco needs help from anywhere to help decide. He’d only be good for this year’s tournament and you’d have to fast track some one else for 2010. Try Peter Crouch, when new Sven comes along he’ll never play for England again.

[...] I was considering van Basten’s comments a while back about how he was looking forward to Euro 2008 and not specifically this year’s world cup. I thought we would have a look at the players named in the squad and see where they’ll be come 2008 and 2010. Goalkeeper: Average age = 33.5 Patrick Lodewijks (Feyenoord) -39 Edwin van der Sar (Manchester United) -36 Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax) -24 Henk Timmer(AZ Alkmaar) -35 [...]
