Pre-season warm up: make yourself heard…

Hi all,
In today’s football season, it’s hard to determine when it stops and starts, what with play offs, cup finals, qualification games, confederation cups and now the up coming CL qualification games…
But let’s say we’re in pre season warm up phase now.
Which means it’s time for me to check how everyone is doing?
We’ve had a cool run last year and with the WC2010 looming on the horizon, I think we’ll even get more busy and crowded in this space. Which is good!
So, into the coming season, expect us here to follow the shenanigans of Bert & Co. Preparing for the big one in South Africa.
Also, we’ll see if Ajax and Jol are a good match, whether Fred Rutten is able to get more football into PSV and we’ll follow the activities of the Rotterdam Messiah Mario Been at Feyenoord.
Obviously, Ronald Koeman has to step into big shoes in Alkmaar and Steve McClaren might even sell his umbrella this year!
We’ll be on the heels of our heroes abroad as well, of course. Van Persie wants to be number 1. Van Gaal wants to demonstrate he can survive at FC Hollywood and Rijkaard and Neeskens want to be able to stand the heat. And the Real Madrid lads? Well, they basically just want to play football I guess…
We’ll continue our “Where are they now…” series, our Specialist accounts, the “Once in Oranje” articles and we’ll add a new category to our posts here, something called “Thanks for the Memories”…
But most importantly, I’m looking forward to more male (and female) bonding and bromances over Clockwork Orange here, thanks to all of you out there!
So, do me a favour… Just re-iterate in a comment for me (so I can keep track and play to your strengths)
1. Favorite club today
2. Favorite player today
3. Fave player ever
4. Most memorable football moment and
5. What would you like to see differently on this blog in the next season!
Gotta go, off to training session

Since this is the biggest blog I´ve seen of Oranje I think it could be good to try to contact KNVB so this blog can be linked to KNVB´s web page. This blog is respectful, great analysis and all Oranje´s fans.
I have a good feeling about South Africa 2010!!!

@Ferenc: Here is what I find ironic mate, Sepp Blatter goes out and complains to no end about how concerned he is about the spending power of the English Prem. Yet he says nothing about Real Madrid buying Kaka, Divaldo and now Benzema, all financed by bank loans on top in the biggest recession since the great depression.
I am sure the average fan of the average club in any average league in the world (never mind Europe) will sleep well tonight knowing that we have some very capable people looking after the sport we love…
This guy has to go.

@Finnster, oh Sepp Blatter said something alright.

@Bart: Not sure if I get your point, but he said nothing about Real’s spending, and this is before Benzema. What he did say later though is how terrible the English Prem is for spending.
So what gives? looks like Real has a get-out-of-jail for free card, where as every English club is sponsored by the devil. The guy is an utter embarrassment to soccer and is showing the same qualities he used to get himself reelected by playing politics at the last FIFA election

@Mario ; already tried that a couple of months ago (to have a link on the KNVB site), had no response

Finn,
Yep. But the joke is on RM, don’t you think? Now instead of beating the small clubs 2-1, maybe they win 3-1 or 4-1, and some nice little flourishes that they can get away with against smaller teams. But what happens when they play the Liverpools, MU’s, Barsa’s, et al. They still haven’t solved their holding midfield and defensive problems. They’ll still get physically pushed around like they did at Anfield. The crazy thing is that they keep signing players for positions they have depth at, and they act like the defensive positions are set and need no bolstering. As has been said, its about sponsorship deals and marketing in Asia, rather than winning.

1. Ajax and Arsenal
2. Sneijder, Van der vaart, Robben, and Messi

Favourite club: Arsenal and I try to catch all the Barca matches I can.
Favourite player: Robin van Persie, Dirk Kuyt (sorry Tiju), and Van Der Sar.
Favourite player ever: Edgar Davids and Denis Bergkamp
Favourite moment: When Davids scored the winning goal against Yugoslavia, I watched it with my Grandpa and we both yelled so loud we woke my gramma up.
Changes: I don’t comment much but I love this blog. It’s the only blog where I bother to read the comments as I learn so much and ppl aren’t just fighting with each other about who is a true fan. I wish there were more females around. It’s a little lonely here sometimes in that perspective.

I agree it is a great blog that noone fights. So rare for Dutch football fans…maybe because most of us dont come from Holland haha

I think the quality of this blog comes down to:
1) Jan is an excellent moderator and endless source of great articles and information
2) You have some very knowledgable people writing on this blog, like Goose and Alex and the rest of you lot
3) We all live/come/have a very diversified background, but we share one thing in common which is the love of spccer/football and in particular Oranje.
So when that is indeed the case, there is very little left to argue over. Even if you are Dutch

Who the hell is this @#$%clown Finnster01 who knows nothing about football and supports dumb teams like Ajax and Liverpool – No idea man !! What can you expect from a Viking living in the Big Apple who frequents Irish Pubs with 6ft Dutch Blondes ! pathetic !!
(There! now we have an ARGUMENT !!)

Sandesh – If you want to read what’s happening in other countries there are 30+ blogs on this page about other countries from the biggest fans of those countries. As fiercely loyal (if not more) as us and some good inside views. Just scroll up and look at all the flags to click on for the inside stories.

i know carlos. its not the news from other blog that i am looking forward to in this very blog but just some oter news that is a bit different and the article from JAN’s perspective.

@Sandesh: There are often different inside perspectives around the national teams that Holland faces. For example, I have done frequent updates on Norway and Iceland, somebody did one on Scotland, and someone even did one on Tunisia. I am sure Carlos will do one on Australia. I think that is very useful and exactly what one wants on a Holland blog.
I think if you want more than that, just do what Carlos suggests, take a look at the country of your choice.

1. Favorite club today – Ajax forever!
2. Favorite player today- Luis Suarez, Ismail Aissati and Jari Litmanen (he is still playing : )
3. Fave player ever- Jari Litmanen, Brothers De Boer, Marco Van Basten
4. Most memorable football moment – Goal No 1 (Litmanen) Ajax-Bayern CL 95, Bergkamp’s last minute goal against Argentina in WC 98.
5. What would you like to see differently on this blog in the next season – bit more Ajax and Dutch league news would be nice. More focus on other teams in the dutch league.

1. Feijenoord
2. Dirk Kuyt, Dwayne De Rosario
3. Dennis Berkamp, Tab Ramos,
4. DENNIS BERKAMP, DENNIS BERKAMP….(as described by Jack Van Gelder)
5. Jan does an excellent job, change nothing.

a little late, but i’ve been away and playing catch-up on all the great posts i’ve missed when i was gone.
fav club: ajax, arsenal, barca
fav player (current): van der Vaart, van Persie, Kuijt and non-dutchies like xavi, gerrard and cesc
fav player (all-time): Cocu, Bergkamp and Cruijff
best moment: EC88, Bergkamp vs Argentina WC98, and oranje-italy EC08
Changes: this blog is awesome as is, but i really like the potential of the new “thanks for the memories” series, hopefully revisiting great moments and players in Oranje’s history (especially for those of us who weren’t around for the great teams of the 70’s). Btw kuddos to Jan and all other contributors for creating a place for true oranje fans to interact without all of the BS and fighting/insults that is apprent on most of the other football related blogs.
