Marco explains more to the press

In a press conference, van Basten decided to go more into detail on the dropping of Ruud and Mark. One can say that captain vd Sar has urged San Marco to fess up. Sar stated publically that he was highly surprised that the two experienced troopers were left out. He told van Basten in a personal conversation, which lasted some hours. He revisited the topic a day later, behind closed doors, and has now told the press about his feelings. “I feel both Ruud and Mark are still good enough to add value to the team. I was very surprised to find them omitted from the list (of players)”, said the Mancunian goalie.

Van Basten welcomed the questions from his skipper “I don’t dislike discussions with players, but at the end of the day, we the coaches decide.”

Marco didn’t want to go into detail on the reasons why he left the two out. “We have had numerous discussions with both Ruud and Mark on these subjects. I won’t tell the public about the contents. That’s between me and them, but they know exactly what I am talking about. It’s hard for them now as it is, and going into detail would probably make it even tougher on them. And I’d like to stress, the doors are still open for them. But now I think the current group is the one I want to give a go.”

On the question if Huntelaar will start against Ireland (August 16 = today), van Basten answered: “That seems to be the logical thing to do.”

The presumable starting line up: Van der Sar; Heitinga, Ooijer, Mathijsen and De Cler; Landzaat, Van der Vaart and Schaars; Van Persie, Huntelaar and Robben.

@ferenc, agree,
I have this feeling that Marco still thinks its all about him (like in the days when he was a player), like hes making up for the attention he lacked cause of his injury at 28..

sure you can say that hes building a team to be at their best in two years, but its so strange Marco closes the door right away on some very decent players..

still cant believe he traits vanBommel like hes done since hes bondscoach, the man plays for the spanish and european champions… so whos Landzaat/Schaars/Janssen etc??? They never played on top european level except Landzaat who played Championsleauge with Willem II…

i mean, if even the captain is openly critical….

well see what tonight will bring us, should never be a problem those Irish (remember 01)

i went on soccernet.com to check the previews for the friendly game and it gave the netherlnads linup(most likely to be not 100% sure) and everybody that is in this blog was there except dirk kuyt will be Center Forward not huntelaar i hope its not true by the way kuyt preformed in world cup he cant score for sh*t

many are loosing faith in van basten, he must prove he is right in his decisions now. But does Cruyff still has belief in his coach??

I don’t know about watching it live but I am listening to it on Radio 1 – http://portal.omroep.nl/radio?nav=utzlCsHdDoBlFyG
It is of course in Dutch.
Huntelaar made it 1 – 0 Sounds like they have a pretty good possesion game going.

4-0 to holland, could’ve been a lot more. Ireland were horrible. Holland played well, van der Vaart and Hunterlaar players of the match.

@Rami, dont think so my friend..just an easy friendly game..i still think that Marco is not able to get the most out of the players he can call on… still think hes ego is to big for the job.. lets wait till we have a decent opponant…

but agree on Huntelaar..this is a very special player who will bring us victories and glory!!!

vanderVaart played good as well, to bad he had this injury during the WC cause in this form he can be a real player…

what about defence??
