Players’ names in Bohemian Rhapsody: brilliant!
The world is going mad! Financial meltdowns, whale sandwich, killing for oil, Maradona as team manager and Van der Sar left out of the Top 23… (Sar’s birthday yesterday; Fergie sent him to the stands as a present) and now this…
Some English bloke re-wrote Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody using football players’ names. Among the elite, one Johan Cruyff, Danny Blind, Dirk Kuyt and Bryan Roy
.
I wanna see your compositions (other songs) with only Oranje players’ names please! Scroll below for the full “lyrics”.

“A diver? I don’t want to talk about that because I don’t agree. If you want to talk about ‘divers’ you will talk about all the best players in the world. They are the most difficult players to stop, so they provoke fouls.”(c. ronaldo)

M-O, I usually agree with you, but come on C. Ronaldo “provoking” fouls?
I don’t think anyone can say that Pele was ever a diver. He didn’t need to. Nor was Maradona, but he was a cheater regardless. Cruiff certainly didn’t dive, nor did Gerd Muller. Van Basten didn’t dive. Zico didn’t dive. I don’t think Kaka dives, Torres certainly doesn’t dive, Raul didn’t dive, Van Goal doesn’t dive, Rooney doesn’t dive. Even fat Brazilian Ronaldo in his hey day didn’t dive. He used his body to hold up, not fall down inside the penalty box. Just to name a few.
My point is you can be one of the best players in the world without having to dive. Always could, even regardless of position. I don’t see Gattuso fall over at the smallest touch scrapping around in midfield. He delivers a good punch, but he is man enough to take one too. I have a lot of time for that little fellow.
Yet everyone who pulls on a Portugal shirt these days seems to be black belt divers. Especially handbags C.Ronaldo. And that is just wrong!!

in the song at one time you hear Mendes-this says Bent
I thought I heard Bentley as well, and Alpay instead of Tugay, thought it was also Jeffrey instead of D’avray that’s all i could remember, but this is defenitaly one to remember, pretty good stuff. I especially liked the bit with Defoe on the end.

the greatest players in history rarely dived, but especially big names with latin blood seem to have attitudes, fake and cheat quite a bit and always seem to be a bit hot-headed. That’s why I never really was a fan of Maradona, especially when I saw he scored his winner with his hand.Pff hand of God, hand of a little piece of sh*t, Maradona was never really liked by most of his teammates. Too bad he had such a bad character, he could play footbaal, i’ll give him that.

Funny video
I’d have like it better if he could somehow fit Van Nistelrooy into that song (and if he was a better singer).
@Jan – About Christmas (it’s Christmas, not Xmas, if you please), you are certainly right about it not actually being the birth date of Jesus, but they used that date to “take-over” an old pagan holiday. But oh well, the date itself isn’t really that important.
@Finnster – Is Halloween popular in Norway? I thought it was more of a North American thing… or is that only trick-or-treating? When I was in Japan they didn’t have trick-or-treating or really any Halloween customs, although Halloween is starting to come to Japan as a mostly commercial holiday.

@Caleb; Halloween was never a big thing in Norway when I grew up. Didn’t do much trick-or-treating myself. Now however they have made it into a much bigger thing, primarily driven by the commercial aspects. Very much like your Japanese experiences. My nephews and nieces all gets into it. Kids trick-or-treat, and the teenagers use it as just another reason to party really.

A very poor attempt but if were to try anything like this with Dutch players only, it would have to be:
WHO LET THE DOGS OUT…
Krol Kieft De Jong Kuyt…

@ Caleb
“but especially big names with latin blood seem to have attitudes”
come on, lots of germanic and slavic blood players are divers too. robben, gerrard, baros, cabanas, van bommel, streller, shevchenco……

@Mo – I didn’t write that, I think you’re looking for Alex ![]()
Although I do kind of tend to agree that “latin” players tend to be hot headed and have to reservations about cheating to win (and are even praised for doing it successfully sometimes!). I think it’s part of their culture/football culture.

you call Baros, Cabanas, Streller big names , don’t make me laugh. I’m talking about some of the best in football history.

@Finnster – Haha, good one! I think we could improve on it though… Maybe for “Who” have “Ruud” (same vowel sound). And something else for “Dogs”… suggestions?

Btw , heard Arsenal is prepared to lay down 28 million euros for Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, and apparently Barca, Juve and Real are interested as well after he and Ajax couldn’t agree on extending his current contract. Pretty good for a striker who is being heavily criticised in the Netherlands at this moment. But don’t know if it’s true.

Could well be true. Players with those instincts are rare, I guess.
I love the Ruud Kieft De Jong Kuyt song

Let me teach you all something about the holiday Christmas
…..
Did you know the widely and highly popular christmas holiday almost entirely comes from Germanic and Dutch tradition ![]()
I’m warning you know, it’s going to be a long story, this message is only part 1, but he if you’re a oranje fan you have to have some background info about this country.
And realise the Duthc have had more impact on modern society than many people think or know.
Santa Claus or Saint Nick comes from the Dutch tradition of Sinterklaas or Saint Nicolas, also an old man with a beard, in a red robe, but Sinterklaas has a red pointy hat, or Mijter as it’s called in Dutch(not kkk or anything) and a staf, he kinda looks like the pope but half red, santa claus(claus even has ties to german, short for Niklas or something) also has red outfit but with other details. They both have a book in which they follow all children in the world, supposedly. Sinterklaas has “Zwarte pieten”(or black pietjes
) helping him, they have the weirdest outfit you could imagine and as the name says there black, here Santa claus again resembles this, he also has helpers, also constisting of a minority, which is midgets, or “worker elves”.
they both give presents and candy to the children that have been good that year. Sinterklaas rides on a white horse, while Santa claus has his reindeer sled. They both deliver presents through the chimney. and both accept presents from children, Sinterklaas accepts sugar, and carrots, but also drawings due to the price of carrots, but only if it’s put in a shoe by the chimney, or heating system. (?). Santa accepts milk and cookies, that’s explains why he’s a fat boy unlike sinterklaas. And where Santa claus supposedly lives on the north pole, Sinterklaas is more environmentally efficient, he is said to have his crib down in Spain. Where he lives until every year he goes back to the netherlands to celebrate his birthday. He makes the journey by steam boat, not so good for the environment. and he arrives about a month before his birthday, december 4th. on the night of his birthday, he gives his gifts and after that he goes back to Spain. Why Santa claus gives out gifts to children isn’t really clear to me. Except they’re both very friendly to children..?, and give out…… candy???..? OK. But this is where THE
American holiday tradition comes from, but distorted and changed. If you wanna read part 2. Ask me. If you don’t I’ll post it any way.

The cristmas tree, is thought to come from Germanic tribe tradition, during winter the days were short and dark, so they were said to have put up shiny objects in a tree or something, to scare away evil demons and spirits with their own reflection. Also to reflect any light there was, to make it brighter. so the current decorated tree has gotten another but though similar use, it brings light in dark times, and stands for happiness, warmth, safety.
As I dig deeper into Sinterklaas, there are other holidays celebrated in europe like this. The current Sinterklaas is said to have come from Turkey originally, our biggest Allochtoon!!(strange word for foreigner). And was indeed a saint. Saint nicolas of Myra, a bisschop, hence the outfit. At first the back piet was to symbol a concurred demon, forced to do good by the saint, or a pagan pre-chistian God being concurred by Christianity . This goes back to Germanic Gods like Wodan and such, so Sinterklaas and Zwarte piet originaly were a duo. Only one helper, but after world WWII the canadians had a brilliant idea and introduced multiple black pieten when they celebrated with us. the current piet is black, thought to suggest he is a moor(old name for African), and it’s said that Saint nicolas bought a african slave boy free once named Piter, which decided to stick with Nicolas and help him. His clothes are probalby a mixture of moor clothing and Italian chimney sweeping clothes, that’s why he is mostly said to be black these days, he goes through chimney’s(chimney sweeper). But the current Zwarte piet is probably a mixture of all of the influences.
But most of all everything from Sinterklaas to Santa claus most likely comes directly from Germanic tribe traditions, Mythology, Gods and customs.
Santa is most likely derived from the god Odin himself.
Now if that wasn’t good to learn, I’ll just shoot myself ![]()
Now you know why you love us so much, we are the origin of your holiday’s

Speaking of Sinterklaas…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IoDHf6zl79c look at the end of this clip.
Well, this song was done by Andre van Duin, a famous comedian. It’s a parody of an old Dutch folksong, where a girl, named Catootje, is going to a buttermarket and carves out several persons out of the butter. The basic theme of that song is pun-intended, like van Duin’s version.
A small transcription follows like this:
Van Duin goes to a soccer-stadium with his brother-in-law. There’s plenty of room, but they see a fat man and he sings “We gonna be champions”. Then they see a sharp-dressed man. He sings: What a goal! A sausage-seller sings: Hot sausages! A knock-out blonde sings: Shall I comfort ye? A Minister sings: I don’t care… A drunkard sings: Is there any booze left?

Did a click to soon… The song goes further and follows with a “kakmadam” somesort of barones.. she sings: What a splendid performance. Followed by a hooligan who’s intention is to break any ones legs, and then followed by a bratt: everybody shut-up! Now, the first one repeats the second and so on. However, this is not the original clip of van Duin, but this is a fanmade clip of pictures of famous people in Holland.

Did you know that Ol’ English is from the Northern tribes of Germany (Angels) and the Frisians of Holland? The Frisians can read the original Beowulf no worries! They moved to England (no one knows why) and brought their language to the British Isles and their language slowly pushed the Celtic language out…

Alex- I’m glad you metioned Sinterklaas vacations in Spain. Here in Ontario Canada where I live we have Santa Claus parades that used to have Sinterklass floats as we have a large dutch community here. A jamacian group complained that Zwarte piet was racist because they thought he took “bad children” away. We tried to explain he was actually spanish and was black from coal. They made us take out the float anyhow. So it’s nice to know that my family was infact telling the truth and Zwarte Piet wasn’t a bad guy

I remember that in my friends group the Zwarte Piet story didn’t work. We all wanted to go to Spain! So, it sort of evoked behavior that would get is “in the sack” hahahaaa

@Jess, that tends to happen a lot, people thinkinh it’s racist, but infact the reason he’s black can have two origins, that he was an Italian chimney sweeper, or that he was an african slave bought free by the saint and helped him afterwards, but especially black people find it insulting as he is a helper and black, i don’t see why, at first Piet stood for a concurred demon but with the St. Nicolas of Myra and the slave tale being mixed in it actually became a symbol of the saints goodness. cause he bought a little slave boy free. Nothing wrong with that. It’s not racist at all. People who say it is mostly just have a fear cause they’re black themselves and want to eliminate everything what they feel could be anything close to racism. I don’t know why, but minorities tend to make an appeal on the racism very quickly.
