Play offs UEFA cup
Feyenoord lost the first leg in Groningen against FC Groningen 2-1. Ad Interim Coach Don Leo Beenhakker pulled a tactical trick from out of his sleeve. Right midfielder and one-time international Romeo Castelen played on the number 10 shadow-striker position and scored the 0-1 for Feyenoord. In the first 25 minutes, young talent Jonathan De Guzman made a stupid unnecessary tackle and was sent off. With 10 men, Feyenoord couldn’t hold on to the lead and lost 2-1.
Don Leo played the press as always after the match. “It was good to be back coaching a team in Holland. I already enjoyed the match before ours, the kids from Groningen playing the kids from Emmen. Great! I think my team did well, particularly mentally. It was tough after having lost De Guzman. I think it was a foolish foul, but that’s just because he really wanted to do his stinking best. He tried too hard. This is a young and inexperienced player with a huge future. The good thing is, he won’t do something like this ever again… I am really looking forward to the second leg. Full house in Rotterdam, pacemaker on 100….bring it on! I’d like to play tomorrow if possible…”
And that, dear readers, is the kind of psycho babble Don Leo is famed for. And mark my words, it will work. Feyenoord will trash Groningen in De Kuip.
In Spain, Barcelona played Getafe for the 2nd leg of the semifinals Copa del Rey. Barca won the first leg 5-2. No worries. No flies on Barca. What they worry? Well…the Bernd Schuster coached Getafe butchered Barca in the second leg 4-0!!! Now, it’s Sevilla vs Getafe in the finals. Congrats to the new Real Madrid coach…
Michael Reiziger and Patrick Kluivert have been told to pack their bags and leave. Their contracts at PSV will not be renewed. They will, however, try to stay in the game and find a new club.
