Phillip Cocu on the shoulders, despite penalty :-)

Phillip Cocu said his farewells last Saturday as a player. The ex international devised a team of players he played with to take on the current PSV team.

Team Cocu was able to withstand PSV for one half, but eventually lost 5-1.

Cocu could have said goodbye with a goal, but missed a penalty kick (sic) with 15 minutes to go.

Team Cocu had players like Luis Figo, Dennis Bergkamp, Frank de Boer, Arthur Numan, Marc Overmars and Patrick Kluivert. Figo scored the 0-1 after eight minutes for the team coached by Guus Hiddink and Bert van Marwijk.

PSV’s goals were scored by Nordin Amrabat, Ibrahim Afellay, Danny Koevermans and Danko Lazovic.
The Serbian striker scored twice. Coming Thursday, PSV plays Europa League qualifiers against Bulgarian side Cherno More Varna.

Cocu’s three sons held the sign with number 8 up, five minutes before time. A long standing ovation was the result and Stam and Kluivert raised the midfielder on their shoulders. PSV manager Jan Reker and ex-chairman Harry van Raaij praised Cocu after the game, and PSV’s favorite son said his goodbye to the fans as well.

The proceeds of the game will be given to the Dutch Asthma Fund. Cocu is an asthma patient himself.

This was a very special day because a true legend has said good bye. I’m very sad because we won’t see him play again but I’ll always remember all the joys he gave us in my heart. Cocu is an example so having him with the national team as an assistant coach will benefit our players.

Thank you Cocu and best wishes.
