Out of favour Robben

It has been suggested that Arjen Robben will be on his way out this summer in order to make way for further changes to Super-star wanna-bes Chelsea. In their efforts to take over all of football using their sugar daddy Abramovich’s cheque book that have so far failed to come even close. Credit to Mourinho; to a degree he realizes that a tight, well put together squad is better than a team of Galacticos.

Robben
As a result of Chelski’s failure to achieve world domination a mini-clear out is likely to take place this summer with Huth and Robben apparently the most likely to be shown the door. This excites me in ways it probably shouldn’t. I’m a huge fan of Robben and it killed me to see him move to Stamford Bridge over United. He is a clinical finisher, can dribble like Maradona (I stand by that claim), and has incredible pace. His only problem is a tendency to get injured and the typical Dutch ego. Where should he go? I would think Barcelona might be a good fit and I’ll always hold out hope for Manchester United.

[...] Holy transfer rumors, Batman! Robben is on his way out of Chelsea (Netherlands Blog) [...]

I watch Chelsea a lot (I’ll ignore all your tiresome criticism of the team) and I like Robben a great deal, BUT: in his two years at Stamford Bridge he has shown a tendency to flop. I think it’s really hurt him with the refs and at times with the manager. Today, for instance, against Everton, he was pulled out by Mourinho after two consecutive dives that the referee didn’t even think about twice. I think he’s an enormous talent, and I wish him well (unless he plays elsewhere in the EPL), but I hope he grows out of this tendency as he matures.

Robben has great talent but he is always hurt or diving! The man has got to learn to play tough, however this is probably not going to happen at Chelsea or anywhere else. I think they would be better off with Wright-Phillips playing instead of Robben. Robben will probably end up in Spain or Italy. I could see Juventus or one of Milan teams coming in for him.

Shawn, I’m sorry about the Chelsea jibes. I’m a United fan and I’m having a rough time of late. I agree with the flopping comment. I’ve played on some slippery pitches but it seems like Robben is playing on a separate sheet of ice at times.

Nicholas, AC Milan possibly since they have a ridiculously elderly team. He just seems like he would fit with a Spanish team to me. Something about the way he attacks and runs at defenders. I dunno, feel free to disagree.

I think Robben is one of the most talented players but was reallu unsuccessful at Chelsea. However when we watch him in some of his performances especially with Holland against Czech Republic you would say he is the man the dutch rely on. I think the plus the dutch have this year is that their players did not fatiguate in the season so they are more energetic to play in the world cup than those who playes a lot with their clubs.

Robben would be a good fit for Real Madrid, he would no doubt bring a toughness to the side that already consists of “tough hardnosed” players like Raul, Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Beckham, Zidane, and Woodgate. With In Robben is the mix not doubt Real will reutrn to glory!

How can you say this, knowing what consistently happened to all the galacticos… The team gained marketing value but lost sportive abilities. Let Robben go there – especially now when anybody in their right mind would want to leave – and you’ll loose one of your best players… At least in Chelsea his team wins and he has to fight either for a place, as well as in the pitch when he plays.

I agree with you Pedro about Real Madrid but I wouldn’t mind seeing Robben move away from Stamford Bridge. Competition for spots is all well and good but when your squad has so many players you won’t play even if you are on form then I have to wonder about the wisdom in staying put. Ruud is quality player but look at all the stress he endured while Saha was given a run in the team. Moving to a world class team can go either way.

Yeah… But where to? I’d say Spain is the proper place for a player like him. Italy would both wear him too much, as well as not fully use all his skils – he’d be required to play quick and in counters, so all his technique would prbably not be used to full extend. But this is theory…

There’s more in Spain than Real and Barca. However, in Chelsea, even if he doesn’t play so much, he’s still in a winning team. I mean, NOW he can jump to a good club. And after that…?

I guess my concern isn’t whether he’s with a winning team. It will probably figure into his own decisions though.

I agree that Spain is the place for him if he can’t find anywhere else (think Manchester United). For the good of the Dutch team I’d like to see him play every week even if its for a decent team like Tottenham, Valencia or maybe Lyon.

Have you given your thoughts on the defense yet?

Sure, England would also be very good. Forgot to mention it.

Pires is also not playing, for a long time, (in Arsenal, rigtht)…? Winger for a winger…

In Man Utd, well, C Ronaldo and Robben would probably sound quite good in any line-up… ;-) Some of the 2 best wingers there are, currently.

I couldn’t agree more! Those two would be absolutely terrifying together. At Tottenham he would be under a good ‘ol fashioned Dutch coach who loves to have his side attack with flair. A season with Davids would help his approach to the game as well.

Hey Mike, I know you’re a Man Utd fan (kijk maar): :-)

http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/sport/premiership/story.jsp?story=687426

Immediately Spurs attacked again but United spirited the ball away from Lennon and in the swiftest, most fluent of counter-attacks Ruud van Nistelrooy and Cristiano Ronaldo exchanged passes before the latter crossed and Rooney bundled the ball home. It was all done at break-neck speed.

For obvious reasons I am currently also a Man Utd fan (and this team does have more charisma than others – this you just can’t buy). I say call Robben to Man Utd as well…

If Guily really is on his way out there might be room for Robben at Barca…

Gentleman, I was being sarcastic about Real Madrid and Robben. Robben is an actor and a flopper, he would just add to the so called Galatico mess in Madrid. I have never seen a team with the talent of madrid play as awful as they have played this season. Guti, Sergio Ramos, and Iker Casillas for me are the only tough minded players in that team. Robben going there would funny for the rest of the world, not the fans of the Galaticos.
