Oranje’s Top goal machines

Marco van Basten doesn’t select Patrick Kluivert anymore for Oran,e but the 31 year old is still Oranje’s topscorer. The Lille striker scored 40 goals in the orange jersey.

And for the time being, Pat will remain the number one. The first to be able to beat Kluivert is the 31 year old Ruud van Nistelrooy. The Madrid striker has 30 goals and occupies the 6th place. Rafael van der Vaart is making his way into the top 25.

Hmmm, ten goals to go… It seems he could make it actually. I think Van Persie will look at this list and think…hmmm….I’d like some…

Yeah, some of those old players sure put in a lot of goals in not very many games. Very impressive. Some even have more goals than games! But then again, there really were strong teams and weak teams back then, so it was easy to pop in 6 or 8 goals against some poor country.

I’m impressed with Faas Wilkes because he has a great goal/game ratio, and he has a lot of goals. I’m not too familiar with old players though, who exactly was he?

Here we go Caleb:

Faas Wilkes: born 1923 died 2006. Very importent player in dutch footballing history. Was Cruijffs idol. He was the first dutchman to go to a real big team abroad as a pro, Inter Milan. The KNVB trew him out of the national team cause it was all amateurs in those days. He didnt play for Oranje cause of that between 1949-1956!! He couls have scored so much more!
