Oranje Selection for Asia
Today, Marco van Basten announced the group for the Asia trip, in the first week(s) of June. Biggest surprise is the presence of Andwele Slory, the Excelsior striker, who will play for Feyenoord next season. Romeo Castelen and Mario Melchiot make their come-back into the selection.
San Marco got some “Thank You” notes too. Van der Sar was allowed to take a break, Bolo Zenden and Arjen Robben are injured, while Clarence Seedorf was allowed time off to be with his new baby. Recently Khalid Boulahrouz had to disappoint the Dutch team manager because of a knee-injury.
Oranje will play South Korea on the 2nd of June. Four days later Oranje plays Thailand in Bangkok.
The selection:
Goal: Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax) and Henk Timmer (Feyenoord)
Defense: Wilfred Bouma (Aston Villa, Eng), Giovanni van Bronckhorst (Barcelona, Spa), Tim de Cler (AZ), John Heitinga (Ajax), Kew Jaliens (AZ), Joris Mathijsen (Hamburger SV, Dui) and Mario Melchiot (Stade Rennes, Fra)
Midfield: Nigel de Jong (Hamburger SV, Dui), Denny Landzaat (Wigan Athletic, Eng), Wesley Sneijder (Ajax), Rafael van der Vaart (Hamburger SV, Dui) and Demy de Zeeuw (AZ).
Attack: Romeo Castelen (Feyenoord), Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Ajax), Danny Koevermans (AZ), Dirk Kuyt (Liverpool), Andwelé Slory (Excelsior), Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (Celtic, Sch).

Not sure why de Jong and Landzaat keep getting picked.
Nice to see Castelen and Melchiot back. I haven’t followed Melchiot for a while, but from the look of it, Rennes had a pretty good defense this year. I know nothing about Slory. Is he a winger?

Yea Landzaat should be thrown out, now before later. Wigan is lucky not to be relegated.
De jong is young and talented. I think we can see some good things yet to come from that guy. We need him in any case, We are in dire need of a good defensive midfielder…
Give him time.

Great to see Castelen back and well Melchiot is also OK.
But I know nothing from this guy Slory is he good?.

About Slory;
hes 24, has played for Telstar (2 dev.) and Excelsior (1 dev.)and will move to Feyenoord this summer.. as far as i know he has never played in the oranje youth teams.. hes an attacker, not really a real winger..hes quick and strong think he scored about 13 this season wich isnt bad playing for a team like Excelsior
this selecting isnt really great, most good players are far too tired to make this trip..
Castelen has only played 4-5 matches this whole season..
Landzaat?, why Marco, why??
Anybody seen Melchiot play lately..know nothing about him
deJong: just dont like him, if we just had vanBommel he wouldnt be needed in the first place, little thieves-boy!!! btw he had a terrible season with Hsv..
well, think it will be a shitty trip with bad, uninspired football… no room for these kinda things in modern football

I read some stories about Melchiot. It seems he did really wel in France and Rennes is eager to renew his contract. I think he is a rare real defender amongst “made” defenders in Holland (like Bouma, Gio, Kromkamp). All former midfielders or strikers. Melchiot is fast, explosive, tough, good header. Sometimes a bit too eager but I think he ripens with age.

Looking back at this mediocre at best selection van basten is taking with him to asia, and i really do hope we get a good beating to teach him once again.
What will our line-up be?
heitinga, mathijsen, bouma, Gio
landzaat, sneijder, vdv
castelen, huntelaar, kuyt
???? Seriously, he is fucking kidding me???
Disastrous really.
I bet he’ll probably blame it on the many substitutions hes gonna make in the second half.

Ajax was f#cking lucky as they always are..goal was like 12 meters offside, second one was an own goal and then Az broke down.. its not only that i hate to see those arrogant amsterdam facesm i hate it even more than Az hasnt won anything in the end,,they diserved much more than just a ticket to the uefa cup

oeps, bit of a nasty typo: facesm is faces..
btw: RKC Waalwijk is down to the second devision and VVV Venlo is up to the eredivisie

It is a shame for AZ to end the season with no trophy, I hope the team keeps playing like they have next season.
Van Gaal is a coach I admire very much he has an incredible mentality. He never gives up and inspires that winning mentality to his players.

Danny Koevermans will not make the Asia trip due to injurie-problems. MvB has not yet announced a replacement and most probably won’t.

this kind of trips are totally useless. usually the best players are not available (vds, robben, seedorf, rvn, van persie, etc, etc),the games are really, really friendly, players don’t take any risk, they are tired, etc, etc. the results have no significance.

Congrats to Ajax. They deserved it. Remember, they finished 2nd in the league and should be going to the CL anyway. AZ just choked all the way thru. They could not win the league(tho handed to them on a silver platter), could not win the cup(to a 10 man Ajax), and could not score in Amsterdam. That’s a miserable failure on all three fronts. btw, I glad for Davids and Stam, two of my favorites.

well your certainly right on the chocking part, at least during the Excelsior game which lost them the championship, think after that something just broke..its been a very long season for the Az players who are young, played on 3 fronts till after the winterbreak and remember, most of them played for Oranje aswell (and many did for the first time)… dont think its a coincidence that the most of Ajax big names (youre fav Stam and Davids) dont play national football, Ajax was out of Europe quicker too, just think that in the end the battery went dead…
btw: its nice to see vanGaal loose cause he gets really upset and grumpy…its nice tv!

Um am I missing something or is Robert V.P not on the list for a legit reason?? Other than Gio and van der Vaart, this selection sucks.
