Odds against us

The odds for the Netherlands finishing world champions aren’t what I would call encouraging. Then again….look at our group-mates Serbia and Montenegro.

The greater the odds the better… because the take home will be that much greater.

Hup Serbia and Montenegro!!!

It’s Brazil by a long way. Germany are only up there because they’re hosts. England, Argentina and Italy are joint third — that has to be good news if Argentina’s fans’ pessimism and England’s injuries are any guide. Surprised there’s not more between France and Netherland, who’re going neck-and-neck with Spain. Guess it’s probably about right.

What does it do to a team to have so many just assume you’ll win like Brazil has? I’m glad the Dutch aren’t in that position given the young team. They would quite possibly collapse under it all.

The bookies are generally pretty good with their stuff(They lose money if they don’t.)

But keep in mind that a South American team hasn’t won in Europe since 1970.

The ‘70 WC was in Mexico. The only SAmerican team to win in Europe was Brazil in Sweden in ‘58, I think. The theory is that, back in the day, the Brazilians weren’t used to European food, weather, etc.. That’s changed, now that all but two of their squad play for European clubs.

Man, Rik. I really can’t pull one over on you can I? Thanks for clearing that up. :)

I still think the theory holds a little water. Not really because of the players liking the food or being used to playing in europe. But because of the fans. The sheer number of people that will come out and support the team.

When Holland plays in Germany this summer the stands will be packed with dutch fans. Much more so then when they play outside the content.

The Atomsphere can sometimes tip a game one way or the other.

I just read that Vinic (Vidic) the strong defender of SM is suspended against Holland. The SM’s don’t like that :-)

Yes that’s true. Lyle, our biggest fan, has been complaining that bookings should not carry over from the qualifying to the finals. I don’t him that its really one big tournament but he wouldn’t listen.

Secretly….I think they’re all worried that Vidic became such good friends with Ruud and Edwin at United that he purposely got suspended so he wouldn’t be embarassed by his new friends.
