Nike presents new Oranje jersey

March 19th, 2008 | By: Jan | 24 Comments »

Nike presented the new Oranje jersey today. Oranje will play in this new outfit at least for two years. It’s modern, stylish and laden with little nifty details and subtle hints to history and tradition. With this outfit, the KNVB breaks with the retro style of the last tournament.

Orange jersey, white shorts and nassau-blue socks. There doesn’t seem to be a huge difference with the former one.

“We moved from the traditional to the more elegant,” explained Nike designer Thomas Walker. “And we wanted to add more charisma to the jersey more in keeping with Oranje’s future.

The new shirt has a V-neck and the right collar is white, the leftside is red-white-blue. “I love the tradition of the Dutch colors in the shirts,” says Ruud van Nistelrooy. “Every time you pull a Oranje jersey on it gives you that special feeling. That will never change. The shirt oozes Dutch culture.”

The color of the socks is lighter. Nike picked nassau-blue, closely linked to the Royal Family. On the backside, the word “Nederland” is printed. The KNVB logo is on the left chest, the Nike logo on the right. On the backside of the shorts one can also spot the subtle red-white-blue.

The first lines of the national anthem, het Wilhelmus, is subtly embroidered in the the inside of the collar: ‘Wilhelmus van Nassouwe, ben ik, van Duitsen Bloed, den Vaderland getrouwe, blijf ik tot in den dood.’

The Niken203-nieuw_shirt_2.jpgdesigners used the latest innovations. The new fit for instance – called the dynamic fit – makes the jerseys tighter. The Dri-FIT material absorbs moist easily and make sure the shirts don’t stick to the body.

Ah, Puma is the best!
But I saw the light-blue Dutch shirt in shops and I must say I loved it, it has the dutch flag all around its girth.

How about keeper’s shirt?

Goose you don’t like the new kit? I’m not a fan of NIke or anything, but I think they design some pretty nice uniforms…

Apparently yes… http://edition.cnn.com/2008/SPORT/football/03/19/real.nistelrooy/

He should be fit in time for Euro though!

Btw, has been a long time since I’ve posted but I’m still checking up on new posts daily Jan. Keep up the good work.

Let’s pray for Ruud’s presence at the EC!!!. Without him I don’t see us going through the 1st round.

According to Spanish newspapers this is indeed the case.

He should be back for EC but the problem I see is that will he be match fit? Not playing for a few months is no good even if u are physically back to normal, just look at Beckham.

This is a potential disaster in my book. Hopefully I am wrong.

Well, a good thing is that he will have gotten a lot of rest, like Ronaldo before the 2002 World Cup. I think that for a younger striker, this would have been something of a disaster, but for Ruud it might just be positive, speaking very Oranjeistically.

Marco van Basten was a huge question mark for the EC88. Michels had Bosman and Kieft and almost didn’t take him along. Marco started in match 2 and the rest is history. And he always said: maybe it was because I was so fit after coming back from injury.

ruud will probably play the last 2-3 games in la liga, so he will be match-fit for the ec. today i watched ajax-psv,it was quite boring. psv deserved the point, ajax unfortunately didn’t show too much.

I don’t really like this jersey, it’s okay, but definitly could’ve been better.

Rodney Sneijder scored yesterday for the u-17’s.

Dirk,

Where is there a better picture of the jersey, I’ve been trying to find something my poor old eyes can see.

I’m not sure what I think about this jersey… I tend to like collared shirts better.. but I do like the flag on the neckline. I’m sure the jersey will grow on me though.

Very bad news bout Ruud… esp. since hes a player who needs some time to get going… really hope hell play some games for Real before the EC

The link is to a photo gallery wich shows all the oranje kit during the last couple of years…hope it works

Just read that

1. vanBommel is the most hated player in der Bundesliga!! hahaha… great, if the germans hate him we must love him!!

2. Real is interested in Huntelaar

btw; when we played in our most ugly kit (1988) we won the championship…so maybe; how uglyer the kit, the better the result

Cool link goose and Genio. It’s cool looking back at the jerseys back to the 70’s. You can see the jersey makers change as we go back too. Looks like we only started with nike in 1996, before that it looks like Lotto (?) on the shirts. Then from 1990 back it looks like it was Adidas.
I like the large Lion emblem on the older shirts and I like the shirts with the national flag stripes on them.

Makaay injured as well.

I heard that he might be out for the rest of season.

If it is true, then it would be a big pity for him since we would expect him to play the Olympics for Netherlands.

He’ll be back for that. He said he’s aiming for the cup finale which is June and the Olympics are in.. August? I feel more sorry for Feyenoord… playing with Michael Mols upfront in a half a dozen of games isnt ultimate.

to be honest; dont really think football belongs at the Olympics, like tennis or golf….i wish they wouldnt play. BUT if we do go we should win the whole damned competition, hope for Makaay that everything will turn out ok…he never really had a change in the big Oranje so i hope hell have this succes at the end of his career

more worried about Ruud!!! like vPersie we really need him if we want to make any impression at the EC

my fav. kit still is the 74 stuff…really like the big lion (have a tattoo with that same lion!)… dont like the shirts where theres a circle with the number in the middle…i like the blue sox, they are in Nassau blue, and as you all know Oranje – Nassau is the name of our royal family..think thats a nice touch

grtz

My favourite shirts are the 96 away jersey, and the 98 home jersey.

van der Sar and Stekelenburg are injured, so it looks like Timmer will be starting, and the Vitesse keeper is back up.

Nah, football doesnt really belong to the Olympics, I’ll have to agree with that. FIFA seems to agree as well since they dont see caps in the Olympics as official caps. I wouldnt say that Makaay never got the chance, more that he didnt take it. He played 1992 minutes in Oranje, scored 6 goals. Thats one goal in 332 minutes. Very bad numbers. I think van Hooijdonk still is the best player in that way of measuring, one goal every 92 minutes. Crazy numbers.

I wish they would bring back the lion patch from the 70’s. They are very slick. I like the home kits especially. But the away kit from 1980, I don’t like. White shirts and the three stripes of adidas will always look like German shirts regardless of the color of the shorts.

The 1988 shirts are also quite nice…. I’m joking but there is a little truth to it.
