We weren’t convincing or great … We weren’t playing beautiful football .. But we did just enough. There’s much left to improve for next match.

Van Persie should be more active. Also Disappointing from Van Nistelrooy today. But it’s all good. They were playing against group C’s strongest defense. It’ll be easier for Van the Man against Ivory Cost.

Anyway.. we’ll see.

your comments?

oh my goddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd, guys i swear my heart beats are still like 200/min, every time the ball was in the orange area in the last minutes, i was so scared.
am happy with the result, but in the second half we gave them too much spaces to attack.

My 2 cents:
The team played very disciplined and focussed. High paced passing (Sneijder was great!). Indivual, only Robben made his mark. And how!!! Van was useful in his passing and rebouncing the ball and van Persie wasn’t superb, but that assist for Robben was brilliant. I thought in the second half sometimes Robben and Kuyt were doing some gallery play. We need to learn to be more efficient. But I’m happy, overall. Defense wasn’t as weak as normal, they handled it pretty good. This team can only grow. If Persie and later vd Vaart start adding spice to the team, we will be unstoppable!

Another 2cents:
S&M didn’t have any real chances. They did press every now and then, but I didn’t count actual chances. Where as their goalie had some tough situations. The shot of Robben in first half, the Persie header, the Robben shot that just missed the post, in second half a Sneijder free kick, the Persie free kick… I’d say we dominated well and never really got in trouble. It’s just a pity that the 2nd goal didn’t come…

Oh, and can I add that the first decent ball Persie touched was the assist to the Robben goal in the 18th minute. And not because Persie didn’t play well, he just wasn’t involved by his team mates. Everything went over the left side of the pitch, where Cocu and Gio played well together. Wait for fireworks by van Persie in later matches :-)

Exactly Jan. The second goal should have come.

One thing though. I hate the fact that because robben was having an amazing game that every player kept on looking for him.. Most of the passes went only towards him. And Thats not good at all. At the end, im sure he was exhausted. Landzaat, Heitinga who are on the right side were keen to pass long balls towards the end of the pitch all the way to robben than just create chances for van persie next to them.. Thats the latter remained inactive thoughout the game.
Van Nistelrooy didnt do well, but in all fairness he was against the best defense of the group. I’m sure we’ll see much more of him against Ivory and Argentina who have weaker defenses.

So all in all.. theres much to improve still. We are doing great so far. But Van Basten should definitely give them a shouting after the game.

yeah robben played well but the team looked a bit too focused on robben who may have passed at severals times instead of dribbling, but man what a player!

van nistelrooy a bit dispointing and van bommel needs to have more pressence in the middle, i think

superb match for van bronckhorst and van der sar with no errors…

when van der vaart comes it will be perfect….

Guys, I’m happy with the result although would have been much better if we had gotten 1 more goal, which were close on at least 2 occasions. I do, however, NOT share the same confidence in our defense and thought Mathijsen was shaky. Cocu started to show his age a bit and van Bommel is mediocre at best (perhaps time for Maduro in the middle?). It’s rather strange to see the Oranje in a tourney without Davids/Seedorf, though.

Both Gio and Heitinga were good in attacking but was late in couple occasions, we should be more organized against the faster “that other fake Orange” team next. S&M is technically very sound and a worthy opponent of ours but I was impressed with CIV’s speed yesterday vs. Argentina.

Can’t say enough good things about #11 - and I thought I saw the ghost of Marc Overmars back wearing #20.

Onward and GO ORANJE!

oefffffffffff, still shaking guys, its true: 3 point in the bag and lets move on..

hope vanderVaart gets back cause didn’t like Sneijder to much today..

also importent is that we kept a clean sheet wich is good for the confidence of our defence wich was sometimes a bit stuttering though SM never realy looked dangerous..

well my friends, it started, it cab get only better

LETS GO ORANJE!!!

Goose youre right… Sneijder wasnt at all convincing today. It showed big time that he was comnig out of an injury. He missed a lot of openings, should have created much more chances…

Alaa .. lol dude u should know better about the lebanese tricks. the only reason why my posts show they come from russia is that in reality my internet cable steals his connextion from overthere. What a country we live in :) I tell you.

For those complaining about Robben getting too much passes, I just think that the midfield had a lot of confidence in him. Even MvB has said that Robben is in superd from right now: “I’m very happy with Arjen,” said a smiling Van Basten.”Two days before the World Cup, it’s a good time to be back to your best.”
It’s true that vPersie played quite well with the little of the ball that he saw, the only problem was that he was too well marked by the defense. Robben was always alone as Holland was spreading their defense so wide, even a few of the passes towards Robben resulted in throw in’s, as he was so close to the line. I think that MvB has a lot of confidence in Robben, thus, the midfield has too. He played such a pivotal point in the game, although vPersie could have done almost just as good, so it’s great having two good wingers.
I’m also happy to see that Holland played more physical than in their friendlies, with a total of 6 cards being delt out in the game. The Serbian defense was ultimatley quite solid, and I think we took our chances when we could, got ahead and kept the lead.

@all,
hello my holland fans, a few hours after the game now..all congrets

@mrfocus, not sure if its because of confidence from midfield that Robben got all the action, in the second half they changed sides (vanP en Robben) and then we saw vanPersie a few times..
i meself was very impressed by vanPersie, very nice assist, didnt realy make any mistakes but saw to little of him today and he was the big man during the previous friendlys..

but my main worries are
1. vanNistelrooy, played very bad, very nervous, was to eager to prove himself it looked.

2. Midfield, didnt like Sneijder, worried about possible injuries everytime i see Cocu make a tackle, dont like Landzaat and im worried that vandervaart needs time to get in worldcup shape

3. Worried about decent play from defence to midfield, vanBronckhorst, Mathijsen, Oijer almost no decant play, a few long balls by Heitinga but also a few that missed target

well, its obvious that there’s room for improvement but.. its more importent that the 3 points are ours en were’re well on our way, bring on these elephants!!
greetz youall

Interesting comments dudes :-). I’d say Sneijder was one of the drivin’ forces in midfield, I thought he played pretty good. Also Van did well in my view, with luring the central defenders away and almost trying to distribute the little passes and flicks upfront. He was stopped by the ref a bit too much, I felt, but otherwise worked hard. It can and will get better, Oranje friends…

Hey guys,

First point, holland’s defense looked really solid. I can think of only one incident where someone (I don’t remember) who was given an easy opportunity to shoot from the outside. S&M really didn’t have any good chances. Maybe 4 or 5 half chances.

Second, I would have liked to see van nistelrooy be more dangerous. But he was well guarded, and nonetheless did participate quite well. We will see more of him in later games. Robben was great, but indeed used a little too much.

Third, the only really weak point I saw was Sneijder. I don’t know why some of you people thought he played well. He messed up so many passes, and gave the ball away a lot. Defensively I also didn’t see anything special. Sneijder might get better (he needs to get a lot better), but I think it’s worth to try van der vaart. Cocu and van Bommel did a good job.

Fourth, expect holland to start higher paced football. Today was extremely hot and none of the players were really used to this.

Good job Holland.
