NED vs ARG - Starting Eleven

June 21st, 2006 | By: Jan | 12 Comments »

The Dutch line-up against Argentina, later today is official. Van Basten will rest all booked players bar Boulahrouz.

This is how we’ll defeat the Gauchos:

Van der Sar

Jaliens - Boulahrouz - Ooijer - De Cler
Cocu - Van der Vaart - Sneijder
van Persie - Van Nistelrooy - Kuyt

Both Jaliens and De Cler (both AZ) make their WC-debut against Argentina, against whom Oranje played 7 times before and won 4 times! Most famous wins, the 4-1 at the ‘74 WC and the 2-1 at the ‘98 WC. The winning goal is among the best goals ever scored at a WC, but need I remind you of that? By the way, the only match Holland lost against Argentina was an important one as well. 3-1, in the finals of the ‘78 WC.

I haven’t got the Argentinian starting line-up. Lots of rumours, though. Riquelme is rested. No, Riquelme plays. Messi plays, oh no, Messi is rested… Heinze seems to be the only cert not to play because of his booking.

You know what… We don’t care who plays… VAMOS ORANJINA!!!!!

I think I’ll have to create an endless video loop of Bergkamp’s winner from the ‘98 match to tide me over until the match starts… :)

Looks good, will be interesting to see an unselfish Kuyt play instead of Robben.
I really like this midfield, although I would put Cocu in the centre, VDV left and Sneijder right.

My only worry is with the backs, De Cler and Jaliens aren’t that experienced but Ooijer and Boulahrouz are strong centre-backs.

Go Hollanda !! 3 - 1

V.Bommel is a durty player too, he had like 6 fouls in that game agains Ivory Coast. You guys need to get over that Bergkamp goal… And this game is not a big deal since both teams are resting some of their starters.
Besides whoever wins will potentially meet Germany in the Quarters.
2-2 tie

van der vaart and sneijder should do very well!!

have any information on argentines starting line-up?

if boularouz and ooijer do a good match then, netherlands should win. And a win is important, as we saw in today’s match, better have mexico than portugal.

it’s halftime–and while both teams have played fairly well, I think the argies have had the better of play. Their defense has bothered Holland, and they have been more dangerous in the attacking zone than the dutch. the argies seem quicker than the dutch. haven’t seen van der vaart do anything–i think it was a rough first half for him. all of Holland’s forwards struggled, I thought.

Both teams played too cautiously, understandable considering the risk of injury/bookings.

Argentina had a slight edge in the first half, our midfield didn’t do too bad today with the new combination. Jaliens looked like the weak link on defense, de Cler is much better.

GO ORANJE!

Saw only the first half, but generally the Argentines had the more dangerous chances. What it really showed is how essential Robben is. He might be selfish, but without him the defence doesn’t get pressed.

Also clear that Gio, Van Bommel and others are important to the Dutch side.

Glad it was a tie though, losing would have hurt the confidence.
Now the hard part, getting ready for Portugal!

At least we have two good points, De Cler can handle best wingers (Messi or Tevez) and Kuyt can join mid-field whenever more attacking power called for.

That’s a good analysis there Jarr9881… nice grasp on the English language too… IDIOT!

Seriously, why would you write something like that?? It’s just stirring the pot… Just shut-up and stick to sports that Malaysians are good at…… oh wait, there are none!!!

No disrespect to other Malaysians who i’m sure are kind and rational people…. they should deport your sorry arse before you give Malaysia a bad name.

PS.
I realise that i’m being no better than him by retalliating but sometimes you’ve got to give it back as good as you get to people (or things) like Jarr.

Thats good Jarr I’m glad your nephew can score, but were talking about the world cup, the one thing I like is that at least your criticism of Van Nistelroy is a little valid, he is a goal suck, that’s what we call the guy who stands on the line. But, Jarr next time watch carefully and I promise we will play some beautiful Football, at least for some spells. Hup Holland!
