NED - ARG 0-0 HT

The first 45 minutes are over and done with, and what was expected came out of that first half. But alas, no goals yet.

Oranje is allowed to dominate until some 30 mtrs to the Argentine box. Argentina plays a bit compressed, but once in possession, they easily and swiftly progress forward with their superior passing game. Argentina had the edge in the 1st half, reflected in the corner kick ratio and number of shots on or close to target. Possession 57% Holland vs 43% Argentina. But what counts is, what do you do with the ball possession. And Argentina did more with their 43%….
Argentina even hit the post, although it was Dutch defender Boulah who shot that ball on the post. Holland saw only one real opportunity with Kuyt deciding a shot on goal from a tough angle, coz Van the Man and Vaart were marked.

It’s a good game to watch, sophisticated football and although Argentina is somewhat on top and slightly more dangerous, it could go any which way.

The new boys perform ok. Van der Vaart misses rhythm and pizzazz, De Cler plays a tight game, no mistakes. Jaliens on the right side is insecure and helped Argentina in their pressuring the Dutch. Boulah is excellent and Kuyt is hard working as ever, but not really successful yet, bar that one chance.

The referee seems to be a bit biased. Decisions are going against Oranje a bit too many in my view…

Later guys, later…

The ref did seem to show a little bit of favoritism for Argentina with all those corner kicks, but alas, the Argentines did not win.
