NED 1 -0 SCG FT

June 11th, 2006 | By: Mike | 10 Comments »

It wasn’t too bad at all. Arjen Robben put in a great display and the Dutch play some excellent possession football in the first half.

Man of the Match: Arjen Robben. Marco van Basten said he could be better than Rooney and on today’s performance I’m inclined to agree.

Final Oranje Verdict: Very good game plan and they stuck to it despite fading in the second half. That fading was likely due to the heat during the match and not a loss of concentration. I expect van Basten to put the team through some intense training to get them climatised for the next match. All in all, a satisfying performance given the opponent and the amount of pressure on the team.

Be sure to check out the match photos.

i loved this guy since the first time i saw him playing to psv, and you know what guys; i think robben can still grow and show us more during the tournament if we go far, because he’s got so much talent. i would like to see van der vaart in the midfield in the second gamee too.

Am glad that Oranje won, but I wasn’t that happy with the performance of some players. I just hope that it was the heat that caused that, and not anything else.
I’ll be waiting for an exciting crucial match against Ivory Coast.

Is Sneijder the best option for Holland in the midfield? I think he is not in top form right now – a lot of screwed up plays, missed passes and shots. What’s the latest on Van der vart – is he palaying the next game?

I’d like to see more of Kuyt on the right wing and Vander Vaart at midfield. Van Nistelrooy had no opportunities in space and I blame that on poor distribution from the wings and midfield. I can’t believe Van Basten claims he wasn’t playing well. That is ridiculous! Perhaps if we’d gotten him the ball and he’d done nothing with it I could understand the criticism…

I was very impressed with Holland today.

They played really well, and i was very impressed with the players i hadn’t seen before such as Mathesun and Laandzart.

Wesley Sjender played well and really controlled the midfield. That is the kind of player that Manchester United should be buying…he’s a Paul Scholes Mark 2, and really controls the game well. Philip Cocu also had a good game and the other experienced players such as Ruud and Van Der Sar played well as well.

But the man of the match for me was well (unsuprisingly) Arjen Robben, as a Manchester Utd fan i dont particulary like the guy seeing that he screwed Man Utd by going to Chelsea in dodgy circumstances, and that he is abit of a diver for Chelsea.

But in todays match he was all over the place and was up and down that wing, being a constant mennace to the serbian defenders.

He took his goal well and with confidence he really is a top-class player.

Well Done Holland!

Absolutely no chances were created in the middle. Van der Vaart must replace sneijder, who wasted possession everytime he was given the ball. vdv will surely provide rvn some better service.

Wow, I can’t believe you guys didn’t like Sneijder!!! He is our Paul Scholes. Always working hard, always playable, always working in the space between midfield and offense. He may not have played great (remember he couldn’t train at all last week, and he was out for the best part of the last season’s half at Ajax),but he was the most prolific midfielder. And please, do not expect wonders from Vd Vaart, I mean… Another guy who didn’t see too much action lately. I am happy with the decent play of our midfield… Again, it can only get better…

GWtnn, sneijder played a great match, he had 2 bad corner kicks, but he definately controlled the midfield. Did you see the possesion we had in the first 45 minutes of the game? The serbs nearly didnt get the foot on the ball. It shows you how well midfield played. and sneijder had been injured since his last game, so im, completely happy with the result, and stop moaning man. Its the world cup. And let Van Basten do all the thinking, cause your just not smart enough to know about these things. Did anyone else think this was a REALLY exciting match to watch? i loved it when Holland had the ball. man, that free kick from van persie was BEAUTIFULL. Enjoyed it. Van der sar had some great saves aswell. WE were all singing in the last 5 minutes, because the serbs were on a counter attack looking for a goal. VAN DER SAR VAN DER SAR VAN DER SAR. HOLLAND!! Cant wait till the ivory coast game.
