Mourinho: Sneijder is world class!

August 31st, 2009 | By: Jan | 63 Comments »

The news about our Dutch top players keeps on going… Just read that Real Madrid allows Van der Vaart to stay. With Sneijder, Robben and Hunter gone, Pellegrini successfully pleaded to give a jersey to Rafael… Di Stefano has been seen jumping for joy…

In Italy in the meantime, the dynamic runs, the through passes and the shots with left and right brought back memories of Sneijder’s game against Italy at the EC last year…

In that game, Sneijder was boss of midfield as well.

Sneijder presented himself with conviction in the derby against AC Milan, a game that humiliated the rosso-neri ( 4-0 Inter). With 15 minutes to go, Mourinho offered Sneijder his first ovation-substitution (whatever it’s called in English :-) ).

All doubt was gone. Some Inter tifosi were annoyed with Sneijder because he kept saying he wanted to stay at Madrid. Who was this Sneijder, anyway? But Mourinho knew better and he gambled immediately by allowing the ex Ajax captain a starting spot. “I told him on Thursday: Wesley, you play!”. I have prepped him via sms and told him how to play Pirlo. Listen, Sneijder is world class, he knew what to do. He brings balance and brains to the team.”

Skipper Zanetti was euphoric. “He immediately adapted to Inter. Only the great can do that.”

With ten against eleven and a 2-0 score, there was no real derby and certainly not a lot Huntelaar could do when he came on in the second half, although he did demonstrated his skill with two fine actions which got him the support and applause of the AC Milan fans.

@Abhirup: Congratulations! I am surprised nobody hasn’t burned the ball yet and turned it into the Ashes… :-)

Goose, This tackle is the worst tackle I have ever seen. Frankly that guy should be suspended for at least 1 year and there should be some legal proceedings against him. I heard that the Polish player he injured may never play again. He should be compensated for his entire career. Look at Mutu and what Chelsea is doing to him. This is really incredible. I hope my friend Mr. Platini (!!) does something about it. We heard all week about cheaters but this is far more important. Absolutely disgusting and revolting!!

I fully agree with you Jeff, that type of behaviour has no place in society let alone a football pitch.

Well. I preffer not to see that tackle!!!. I am no doctor, I am a MBA in México…don´t like blod and nasty injuries…

About van der Vaart. He´ll get his chances in Copa del Rey and he has to take them and show what he is made of if he wants to perform in La Liga or in the Champions League. Last year he had his chances and he played awful. If he continues like that he will be in the bench for most of the season with the risk to lose a spot for the World Cup. Now it seems to me that van Marwijk should call him up as a replacement for Sneijder.

My Oranje line up in this moment is:

Stekelenburg(1); van der Wiel(2), Heitinga(3), Mathijsen(4), Braafheid(5); van Bommel(6), Sneijder(8), Robben(11), Kuyt(7); van Persie(10) and Huntelaar(9). In parenthesis the player´s numbers.

De Jong and van der Vaart need more minutes to play and Schaars can have a spot in the starting eleven but he needs to convince van Marwijk.Huntelaar needs to show his value if he wants to be the real goalscorer of Holland.

So, VdV has opted to stay at Madrid. I think he will start mostly on the bench this season. He will be a backup for Kaka or Ronaldo I guess.

Not good for his preparation for the world cup 2010.

i think that vlaar, van der wiel and elia are on good form

van der wiel has been man of the match twice this year

vlaar is just great and elia has scored had a brilliant assist dribbled some defenders and showed good defensive prowess

the vdw and elia i am sure will play some part against japan

heitinga is close to joing everton a good team.

Affelay and Ooier have withdrawn (injury) from Oranje game this weekend. This makes it possible for Loovens to play in the middle.

Maybe De Zeeuw over De Jong? De Zeeuw does well at Ajax.

Holland has two true wingers, why not play with two wingers? So, it is something like this:

——–back four———-
———schaars———–
—-sneijder–van persie—
elia—-huntelaar—-robben

Thats for the match against Japan or Scotland.

@Bobotoh: Replace Elia with Kuyt and you have my vote. That is still a pretty offensive formation with those players,so the wingers will need to track back to cover, especially when Robben is on the other side and doesn’t offer anything defensively. In that lineup, you have to have Kuyt. If not, our least favorite team in the world, Portugal, would have a field day on the wing with Divaldo.

It’s good to know Mourinho has huge faith in Sneijder. I am confident about him and Robben.

VdV will have a very difficult year and as many of you’ve said family comes first so I don’t blame him for staying.

Well the crystal ball I got for Xmas(didn’t get my screw extender thingy’s from David) tells me there will be an injury (non career threatening) to Kaka. No wait…can smell pork’n'cheese. It’ll be C.Ronaldo. Ronaldo to miss 3/4 season with a twisted ankle. In you go Raf!!

Yes, it is very offensive, something I like in Dutch football. So, the defensive midfielder and the back four must be very strong.
