I was never convinced of Michels’ total football concept. Without Cruyff, Michels never implemented it. The teams in 88 and 92 almost played – very good – counter football. At FC Koln, Michels told the players to stop dribbling. I tbink Van Gaal was much more a total football guru than the old geezer, God bless his soul…

Hey Jan, do you think van Gaal would trade his Champion’s League trophy for the European Championship?

@Daniel
I don’t think so :-) , he is pretty proud on that success and he should. But…we won’t forgive him the disaster in the build up to the WK02. Man, his tactical blunders buried us totally. Those two matches vs Portugal in the qualifaction… did you see those… Un-be-lie-va-ble…

Man, he’ll never live that one down. Hey Jan, who do you think was the best Dutch coach?

Johan Cruyff :-) . No, I think Happel was a good one, I liked van Gaal but he did blew it… Hiddink was pretty good. A typical “bondscoach”. Some coaches need a team every day to create something good, like Van Gaal… Others just work with what the get in the small time they have the players together. That aspect of national team coaching did Van Gaal in, and played to Guus’ strenghths, I guess…
