Matchday 5 Champions League

November 27th, 2007 | By: Jan | No Comments »

PSV is still alive. They beat CSKA Moscow in the away game 0-1 by a Jefferson Farfan goal in a dreadful game. The circumstances (quality pitch, temperature) weren’t too good and interim manager Jan Wouters had left most creative players (Ken Perez) out of the team in favour of more runners on midfield. PSV expected to put up a fight with Moscow, but just before the game commenced, Wouters found out the three Brazilian strikers of CSKA wouldn’t play, due to a rift with club management, making his task a tad easier. PSV has a chance to go through, theoretically, but at least will be playing UEFA cup if that doesn’t happen.

Frank Rijkaard and Barcelona are through to the next stage, of course, playing 2-2 in and against Lyon. Rijkaard had to watch the last phase of the match from the stands, being sent off after remarks to the ref.

Man United had a narrow home win against Sporting Club Lisboa at home 2-1, although they did qualify already, with a late Ronaldo goal. Van der Sar didn’t play, recovering from little injuries.

Sneijder and Drenthe won’t play with Madrid tomorrow in and against Bremen. Robben and Van Gol will be part of the Mereguez group travelling to Germany.
