Match Preview NED vs. CIV

June 16th, 2006 | By: Mike | 13 Comments »

Tomorrow we have the all important second match of the tournament. I found a little preview.

I’m cautiously optomistic. Marco van Basten is going to stick with the same team that started against the Serbs. Unfortunately that means Wesley Sneijder will retain his place ahead of van der Vaart. That’s not a knock to Sneijder’s performance but instead its merely my eagerness to see Rafael van der Vaart complete the best possible midfiend trio.

My hope is for a big Dutch victory - hopefully a clean sheet. An Argentinian draw against Serbia and Montenegro would complete a good day. With those two results the Dutch can go into next Wednesday needing a draw or a win to retain top spot in the group.

Why do you think that? I think the Cote d’Ivoire will collapse under the pressure.

I am expecting more goals from this match as both teams have open and attacking styles. I don’t quite care how many goals as long as we got 3 pts. The day will be sweeter if S&M can beat Argentina earlier (not asking much, 1-0 for S&M will make me less nervous watching the NED:CIV match)

Well I should be an optismistic Dutch fan, but at the same time, I do expect the Dutch to make it hard for themselves sooner or later, it would be unDutch if they didn’t.

2-2 draw.

I think 3-1 final result, also depending a bit on the Arg - S&M result. That will influence the game, no doubt. But 3-1, with at least a Ruud v N goal and a IC red card. Why not? And a naked blonde streaker, with huge…sorry…

I think the heat will again be problematic, like in Leipzig. So don’t expect many goals. A 1-0 victory again.

It should be a very entertaining match since both teams play an attacking game.

Ivory Coast played well against Argentina but did not finish well. They have to play hard to stay alive. We’ll see how strong mentally they are.

The Dutch are expected to win and have a very good team and although they had only a 1 goal win over Serbia their mid-field was very good.

right you are alaa.. im not with a comfortable win necessarily.. Any win is good. We just want to qualify.

one note to add guys, if u are paying attnention to how goups A & B are developing, you would realize that we may very easily have a germany - england second draw match-up, as germany may finish second in their group behind ecuador. And I dont think sweden we’ll beat england.. So we only need ecuador to draw and we will have the germans or the english out of the tournament. That will make me happy hehe :)

IVC will be on open attack game since it is make or brake for them.It will be a combat where bravehearts will win.
I really do’nt want to see any cowardness from our team.
Hope a clear win after a goal feast.

You have to wonder at Van Basten’s decision to retain Van Bronkhorst and Heitinga, who are both on yellow cards. Also, the frail Mathijssen (sp?) is due to start at centre-back. Drogba is going to make mincemeat of him. I would have started with De Cler at left-back and Bouhla alongside Ooijer in the centre.
