Martin Jol fears the axe…
Martin Jol wants to talk with his president. The former RKC-coach - and one of the most succesful Spurs-coaches ever - fears that the axe is being oiled.
Although Jol’s team won 4-1 in the third match of the EPL, he lost the first two matches after having spend a record sum on new players. Still, the rumours about his sacking keep getting stronger. And there were pictures in the paper of Spurs board members in a meeting with Sevilla manager Juando Ramos.
Tottenham wants to qualify for the Champions League and some board-members doubt that Jol is able to achieve that.
“Last year the same rumors went ’round. This year it’s a bit early though. And as a foreigner you need to prove yourself all the time. All top-5 clubs have a foreign manager and people expect you to perform as good as they do,” said Jol.
Jol thinks he deservers more time. “How many players does Liverpool and Arsenal want to buy from us? One or two? In that case, a fifth place is too much to ask for. Only if it would be six or seven players, than we could claim to deserve the fourth place…”

Jol is the coolest dutch guy i know… at Spurs they sing: hes got no hair but we dont care…Martin Jol..Martin Jol (you can always have a laugh with those english fans)
always had lots of respect for Jol, i think he did pretty well last few years and its stupid to start after 2 (!) lost games (actually some bookies stopped taking bets on Jol being the first manager to get sacked)
if Jol were to get sacked he should be our new Bondscoach!!

well; you know something is up when you read things like this (see link below), maybe i was wrong, maybe Jol is on his way out (and on his way in as a Bondscoach)

Well, I´d rather have San Marco that this fat guy who kicked Davids out of the team and said one day that the English national team has more quality than the Dutch. I think he can get sacked and go coach somewhere else, we need to replace San Marco whenever that happens with a top coach like Rijkaard, Hiddink, Adrianesse, van Marwijk, van Gaal, coaches who have been succesful at club level and won trophies. Martin Jol can be intelligent but he has never managed a top club so I don´t find a reason why he should be considered as potential coach of the Netherlands. We really need a person who can guide us to the very best, with van Basten I have so many doubts and I feel the same about Jol. It is time Holland has a decent manager, if we want to succeed we need a person who has the credits of Champions League experiencie, a person who has won domestic titles and titles abroad, as far a I know Martin Jod doesn´t qualify under these criteria. I hope he remains at Tottenham but if he is sacked I cross my fingers so he won´t be considered as potential national coach.

Mario! you cant call Jol ‘this fat guy’!! hahaha…true, he looks like a mafia hitman but i think its a cool look to have on the bench…
but ofcourse he wont be Bondscoach (yet) but believe me although maybe he hasnt had the really big teams (Spurs’pretty big) but he did miracles in Holland (i even remember him as headcoach of Scheveningen (try that one you non-dutchies!!) and some him live a couple of times
at least we agree on vanBasten f it all up and i think we all know that nothing is gonna change till after EC08

Hehe… I think it was funny Jol didnt get the job as assistant manager at United cause he was too fat…
I think he is a good coach, I wouldnt want him in any of my favorite teams but he can take a decent team and make a good one out of it, not sure he could win anything though. In Spurs he is really fighting a fight he cannot win. Being fifth in the Premiership is like winning a league because you cant move the four giants. So he sorta wins the league two times and is now expected to take them even higher…

The Spurs board had a meeting with Jol. They re-emphasized that - with all the investments - they expect a great performance this year. And wanted to know if Jol was 100% up to it. And Jol said he was.
“I am happy with this, because now the media can leave me alone and allow me to do my job.” he said.
Which is, versing Man United, by the way ![]()
