Marco to stay beyond the EC!!

June 17th, 2007 | By: Jan | 6 Comments »

The Dutch Federation - the KNVB - has announced that Marco van Basten has expressed his wish to stay on after the EC08, until the WC’10 in other words. Right after the WC’06, the KNVB said they wanted to extend Marco’s contract, only to reap criticism from the press and the fans (and us!!)… We didn’t do that well at the WC, Marco alienated several top players (Ruud van Gol, Bommel, Davids, Seedorf, Makaay), so how could the KNVB even suggest this??? Marco read the tea-leaves and said: “I won’t go into that now. Let’s first qualify for the EC and then we will talk.” Smart guy.

But the KNVB has had their post-season evaluation with Marco and both parties are happy now to declare their wish to prolong the relationship.

“Obviously, we have the right to discontinue if we feel the results of the EC’08 are under par,” Henk Kesler quickly added to the announcement. “And Marco has reserved himself the right to discontinue the relationship if a club comes along and offers him a chance he doesn’t want to pass on…”

So, come on with these joyful comments, my friends :-)

Sad news, I hope he qualifies Holland for Euro 2008 and then on December before the draw a new coach takes his place because with van Basten I still believe that Holland will fail once again. Anyway, this is onlye a dream because the reality seems pretty different.

Well, at the beginning, Marco said his goal was EC08, so I say if he wins EC, he can stay. Anything else, he’s out.

well if he stays, we need to see results.. win the EC, or at least show a different kind of football that weve been seeing over the past couple of years.

he can seriously go to hell if we are gonna lose against portugal one more time, or if he is going to bypass one of his key indispensable players again, or moreover if hes going to show us some more dreadful and boring football.

Spare us your visions of a young and fresh 4-3-3 formation, marco.. Give us a winning one.

i want oranje win the euro 08 and with van basten at the moment it seems impossible. we have world class players like clarence and ruud. carlo and capello always titularize them and tey’re right to do that. marco should build his team around them and not always rhis bullshit talk about the form of the moment blablabla. so tis is one reason why I am not happy to read this post.

honestly,if he remains the same i won’t see too much chance of winning the ec08.
