Marco drops Ruud and Bommel

August 11th, 2006 | By: Jan | 11 Comments »

Marco van Basten has dropped Ruud van Nistelrooij and Mark van Bommel from the group for the Ireland friendly next week. Confirming the fears of many Oranje fans. It seems the WC has destroyed the relationship and trust between the coach and players. Huntelaar will be the obvious replacement up front.
Boulahrouz and Bronkchorst are suspended for the next EC qualification match so Marco left them at home too. Second goalie Stekelenburg of Ajax is dropped in favour of third goalie Henk Timmer (Feyenoord).

van basten can’t be serious there. having a young team full of talent is good, but there MUST be some experienced players to guide the youngsters. with this squad there is only van der saar i think who got some experience. robben and van persie is not enough. they still need to improve.

i think for a team to work there should be a mixture of young talent and experience. Hope his system works though…

Wat denkt hij?

I know the Dutch are more willing to give their frank opinion of just about anything than any other people on earth, but I don’t think that’s a good idea for Van Baasten to so publicly humilate major players.

Van N, Van Bommel, Davids. Wouldn’t a nice public thank you – and some BS reason why the “chemistry” just doesn’t work be better?

Right now the hottest 3 nederlandse strikers are clearly Robben, van Persie and Klaas-Jan, so that’s who want on the field. But I sure as heck would want the option of hauling Van N off the bench.

Unfortunately, look at Klinsman, he made the hard choices, but he always did it nicely.

Greetings to all of you once again.. Jan, Mike and the rest.. Been a while since i last made an appearance. Latest developments (war in Lebanon) really took everyone of us out here by surprise .. and for quite a ride !!

I agree with all of you.. Absolutely do not understand van basten. landzaat is 31 and timmer is 34 as u say.. He defenitely has the wrong players for experience in the squad. I’d prefer van the man on the bench for netherlands no matter how bad he is/might be playing. Unless.. unless VN did not show the coach he was keen on starting as a substitute… Don’t know.

however im excited for urby, schaars and klaas and de jong.. Hope they look promising out there against ireland. where did maduro go ??? why isnt he in the squad??

well we’ll see what happens.. hope vb will start making the right choices.

i would like to see this oranje in the coming 2 years: van der saar – heitinga, boulahrouz(ooijer),vlaar, van bronckhorst(urby) – van bommel(maduro),vdv(sneijder),schaars(hofs)- van persie(castelen),huntelaar(rvn),robben

no landzaat,vennegor of hasselink,etc.

I’m in agreement here – can’t believe the coach is setting VN aside again. I think it was a mistake in the WC game against Portugal, and I only hope it isn’t a mistake now. Guess we’ll find out in a few more days…

where’s Maduro?

It seems that the problem focus on forward .

otherwise, the actual problem is the weak midfield.

what a pit!

i think marco is the problem…. no van bommel, no rvn, no maduro, no stekelenburg, (no seedorf: he’s the same age as landzaat)…

you’re right: the midfield doesn’t look very strong

Maduro is hurt (but he should not be in Oranje at all!!, hes slow and plays like an old lady..),
really have no more faith in Marco anymore, he lost the plot..

instead of giving Ruud and Mark the change to prove themself this season he closes the door on them.. Marco just hates everything not coming from Ajax.. hes duty as coach is to let players play their best, not fucking them up like he fucked up vanBommel and vanNistelrooy.. they play for the biggest clubs in Europe(e.a.the world) sorry Marco, would be better if you’d go away and learned how to be a coach..
