Makaay signs for Feyenoord!

June 28th, 2007 | By: Jan | 6 Comments »

Roy Makaay signs for three seasons at Feyenoord. There was a lot of intrest for the Phantom, from Werder Bremen, PSV, different Spanish sides and – according to the German press – even from AZ Alkmaar.

But Makaay wanted to play for the club he has loved since childhood. And that makes five, after Bert van Marwijk, Kevin Hofland, Tim De Cler and Gio van Bronckhorst…

Congrats Jan! What could have been stormy times ahead for Feyenoord has turned into blue skies with a series of great signings. Quality veterans players and coach are now mixed in nicely with exiting youth. Should be an interesting and fun campaign this year. Don’t know anything about Hofland. Your opinion on him?

Kevin Hofland (born June 7, 1979 in Brunssum) is a Dutch football defender, who’s transfer from Vfl Wolfsburg to Feyenoord Rotterdam was made public on June 27, 2007.

Hofland started playing football for local team Limburgia Brunssum, and his first professional club was Fortuna Sittard. Here, he made his professional debut on 10 September 1997 against Sparta Rotterdam and quickly gained recognition within the Eredivisie as a tough but consistent centre-back. It was also at the Sittard club where he teamed up with other future Dutch stars such as Wilfred Bouma and Mark van Bommel, who transferred to his future club PSV Eindhoven.

In 2000 he was transferred for 3.4 million pounds to PSV Eindhoven amidst rumors of a Manchester United transfer where he quickly teamed up with then PSV captain Ernest Faber and worked well with other fullbacks like Stan Valckx and at times, with André Ooijer. His improved performances for PSV convinced the Dutch coach at that time Louis van Gaal to hand him his debut for the national team in a match against Spain which the Dutch won 2-1 away. Hofland was however replaced after 46 minutes by Patrick Paauwe in that particular match. In 2004, after falling out with PSV coach Guus Hiddink, Hofland decided to sign on for VfL Wolfsburg

This signings will be very good for Feyenord but also for the future of Dutch football too because the young players will learn so much from them.

I am very glad to see that all these experienced players are going back to Holland (Davids, Cocu, Makaay, Stam, Gio, Hofland).

Great for Feyenoord (and the eredivisie), always had lots of resoect for Makaay..great, great striker..im almost any other counrty he would have been capped a million times, he always had the bad luck in Oranje that we had plenty of great stikers (Kluivert, vanNistelrooy)..he has been misused almost all the times he did play (as a right winger), one of the great dutch strikers!!

im just wondering: weres all this money comming from??

Is it the name of vanMarwijk, Koeman must feel kinda bad at this moment!

well Jan; i have this feeling that were gonna get much more competition football posts next season!! haha.. congrets, looks like a great (potential) team

grtz
