Maffia bribed Albania

December 4th, 2007 | By: Jan | 13 Comments »

It seems some sort of Maffia outfit bribed the Albanian team to lose (…) against Rumania in the last EC qualifications match. Rumania won 6-1. The Albanian president has clues that things smelled fishy in…Ankara and has promised a full investigation. The UEFA is following suit.

Without the bribe, Rumania would have won that fixture without a doubt, but these accusations could have consequences for Rumania.

I was just thinking out loud…. England to replace Rumania on the EC?

They’ll say anything to dismiss sucking after a 6-1 loss. I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Then again, if you can have proven cases of corrupsion, bribing & match fixing in Germany & Italy, not to mention the Far East, why can’t they have it in Albania also? There certainly is a strong established mafia presence there.

It is probably not much to the story, at least I hope so. But now that it has become so easy for people to bet on games through the internet and a multi-billion dollar business, unfortunately I think we will see many more shocking scandals on this front in soccer. Just like we are beginning to see it in tennis.

Romania was qualified before that game. They qualified when we lost to them in Romania.

I can’t see England replacing Romania. The only way I could see Romania being kicked out is if somehow uefa can prove that the Romanian team or the Romanian FA bribed Albania to lose, which I’m sure they didn’t. If some mafia bribes Albania to lose in a game that doesn’t count for anything, how is that the fault of the Romanian soccer team? If that was the case, then why don’t we bribe whatever team Portugal is playing against and then it would be Portugal’s fault and they would get kicked out of the euro cup. Doesn’t make any sense though, does it?

What kind of person would bribe a team to lose, when theres already a very good chance they’re going to lose. Does that seem like a waste of money to anyone else?

Well man if they know the result, they can bet that Romania will win 6-1 and earn a lot of money.

AZ lost 1-2. Is that Dutch league getting worse and worse every day?

In some parts you guys are right, Albania did give that match away to easily, but it wasnt because they were payed to do so. No it had nothing to do with Romania at all. It was all a plot of some of the players of the Albanian National Team, to fire then Manager, Otto Baric. It wasnt just the Romania game, but the Belarus game as well, as they let Belarus win in Albania 2-4. Some players were hit hard by the media and by the fans as well, now with new coach Arie Haan, we are hoping that the same thing doesnt happen again!
