Luigi Bruins happy with Mario Been

The infamous Mario Been as Che T-shirt…
When Luigi Bruins played at Excelsior, the experts predicted a big future for the playmaker. The partly Italian, partly Dutch player was the king of assists. He has the eagle’s eye for the through pass and wasn’t too shabby in the goal scoring department either.
When big bro’ Feyenoord came (Bruins could go to PSV too), he quickly signed. He did impress in his first season under Bert van Marwijk on the left wing, but under Gertjan Verbeek Bruins lost his starting position to the more explosive Diego Biseswar.
Mario Been, who worked with Bruins at Excelsior, gave him a new chance this season’s warm up and in the first friendly of the pre-season, Bruins impressed, scoring two goals.
Asked whether his two goals were valuable to him, the 22 year old said: “Ah well, it’s better to score them than to miss right? At least I have two goals already.”
The playmaker is ready for his third season at Feyenoord and is out for revenge. And with Mario Been at the helm, the man who allowed Bruins his debut in Excelsior. “It’s nice that the new coach knows who I am. That works in my favor, I suppose. You know how it is, a new season, new chances. That’s how it feels to me.”
For the first time in his career, Bruins had to face setbacks in his sophomore year in De Kuip. “I fought for what I was worth, but it didn’t seem to work for me. Still, I never doubted myself. The people around me and my family and friends kept their support for me and that made it a tad easier to deal with.”
And the new coach offered him and many fans hope. “There’s always hope at the beginning of a new season, but we will need to show it every week. It’s not just the fans who want us to perform better. The players really need it too, and you can tell.”
His start against amateurs SC Feyenoord was tremendous, although he did have those moments halfway the first half where he became sloppy. That characteristic dip, the one that made Foppe de Haan decide to leave Bruins on the bench at the Olympics, needs to go. “People remind me a lot about that dip, and it is annoying sometimes, but when people like Van Marwijk or De Haan or Been tell me about it, I make sure I pay attention. I need to work on that, big time.”
“In my first season, people put me on a pedestal and in my second season they all wanted to kick me. They probably needed a scapegoat or something, a player they single out to voice their frustration towards. I don’t know. I did get lots of booing in De Kuip and thay hurt, but still, it was probably only 50 or 100 fans, while there’s 50.000 every week…”
With Wijnaldum, Tomasson, Fer and De Guzman, Mario Been has many options for the creative positions. Nicky Hofs is no longer part of Been’s plans.
The fans cheer him all the time, but the Feyenoord management wants him to leave. Hofs demonstrated a total lack of interest on training, while Bruins showed energy and pizzazz. “Only five weeks to go. Whether I’ll play or not is up to me, I guess. Train hard, work hard, be positive and perform. If I keep on going like this, I’ll be fine…”

@Goose: Man Utd preparing bid for the Hunter too:
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/2520476/Man-United-are-back-in-the-Hunt.html
@Carlos: I think it may not be just drink, it looks like it involves a serious Vindaloo as well..

Tiju: we need heitinga, affelay, babel, and especially need kuyt and van bommel. for the bench wee need gio as well. we probably don’t need ooijer. but we don’t need at all castelen,he had 2 good seasons between 2004-2006 and that’s it. he hasn’t done anything recently, and he’s not that young. i’m quite sure for ex. that here in hungary no one knows his name. he’s a reserve player in hamburg. for his position we have at least 3 guys who are better (not only babel). there is no reason to call him to the squad. it’s possible that we’ll loose (anything is possible) but if we loose it won’t be bacause of castelen’s absence.

i dunno why our players still want to stay in this club called real madrid !
they really think it is a proud to play for this club ! with all respect , i prefer for a player like vdv to return to hsv the to warm the bench in madrid
http://www.voetbalprimeur.nl/site/nieuws/110192/Real_kwartet_lijkt_voorlopig_in_veilige_haven.html
they wont never ever play more than 10 minutes in the end of the matches !
especially van der vaart and sneijder .. they will be just subs. for kaka and ronaldo

they will never ever play more than 10 minutes in the end of the matches !
i just want to ask how can i edit my comments ?or even delete it !
@tiju , kuyt is an extremely hard-working player
so all coaches love him
rafa benitez , van basten and BVM
and tbh the guy deserves a place in the dutch squad
but i think you love the skillful players more than hard-working players or players who do exactly what their coaches want them to do
anyway both kinds are essential in the squad
we need kuyt , bommel and boulahrouz and of course we need vdv, robben and elia to make a perfect team
heitinga , gio and ooijer are not fit enough to play for oranje !
they are just clever in doing mistakes , no place for them
but i highly suggest to play with mark van bommel as a libero as cruijff said , he will do a good job !

I think Romeo must have pictures of Tiju performing sex acts with goats, how else can you explain his support for him? Would I like to see Ooijer replaced in the starting 11, sure! But Castellan for Kuyt? Ravings of a madman! And here I am, falling for it again!
Back to the topic at hand though, will Bruins ever see time in Oranje? Too many ahead of him at this point, he needs some serious developing if he is to make the squad! He is ahead of Castelan in my estimation though.

Yes, Bruins would be pretty low on the depth chart for Oranje, but I expect to see him in the next year or so; Wijnaldum and Wielaert as well. As for 2010, how about…
———-Stekelenburg————-
-van der Wiel—Boulahrouz—Gio—
———-van Bommel—————
—–de Jong——–Sneijder——-
van Persie–van der Vaart–Kuyt—-
———–Huntelaar—————
Bench:
GK: Vermeer, Velthuizen
DF: Mathijsen, Heitinga, Braafheid
MF: Schaars, Emanuelson, Maduro
FW: Makaay, Vennegoor of Hesselink, Babel

@carlos,Mohmed,Orange rules,—Mark my words a fit castelen will make wonders for hamburg and orange.hope he stays fit the whole season it will become a problem for kuyt and babel.the por guy was hunted by sequence of heavy injuries.its not his faullt but its our unluck.

big mark; makaay on bench? where have you been mate? maybe for the 2002 world cup if holland were to of qualifyed. he’s like 35 years old.

@Big Mark: You don’t even have Robben in the squad? Have you been drinking the same stuff as Tiju today?

Lol, some great comments here (especially OranjeRules)
And I completely agree with Ferenc’s comments.
@Tiju – how can you complain about a team with no balance and then want to get rid of Kuyt and Van Bommel? These are two major players that bring balance to the team!

Big Mark – Where is Robben? Where is Robben? Where is he?
I’d drop Hunter to the bench. Start RVP in the striker role. Move Kuyt into RVP’s spot on the right and Robben goes into the attacking midfield left position.
Makaay gets dropped forsure!
Other than that, looks good!

STOP THE F*CKING TALK ABOUT F*CKING CASTELEN!

we need this starting line up :
____________________________ steklenburg ______________________________
___boulahrouz____________v.bommel ______ mathijsen __________brafhied _
______________________ de jong ___________ sneijder ___________________
____kuyt _______________________ vaart _______________________robben __
_____________________________persie ____________________________________
( unstoppable team )
subs :
velthuzien , vermeer or worm
van der weil or zuiverloon
bouma or emanuelson
maduro , vlaar
schaars , de guzman
elia , amrabat , drenthe
huntelaar and babel

Mohamed…..awesome…i never need to see another lineup again. i think MVB at CB is perfect, i like the speed on the left with braafheid, and the cannibal on the right. I see you incorporated what cruyff said with Sneijder dropping back a line…the ONLY thing…affellay needs to be on this team before amrabat…scored 13 goals in the league last year, like 10 assists, amazing dribbles, he has mature as a player, great passing. Noone can deny that he AT LEAST needs to be on the bench…why is he so underrated??

Mohamed – only issue I have with this are minor!
Gio for Bouma / Emanuelson – need the experience (Bouma may never play again and Emanuelson can’t find a position)
Heitinga for Vlaar / Maduro – need the flexablity and experience
Afellay needs to be there ahead of either Amrabat or Drenthe (Royston’s confidence appears shattered, I’d say he is the odd man out)

I don’t know… I like a proper CB for the position of CB. Actually, everyone seems to disapprove of Ooijer, but for me when it comes to Ooijer or Heitinga, it’s Ooijer for me.. If Boulah can get a real good season on CB, I will go for Boulah. I just haven’t seen much of Maduro, but he is also an option.

About Luigi, I really hope he can show himself again this season. I’ve seen some stuff of him I really liked. Maybe the next Riquelme? Not fast, not strong, but a great touch.

@OranjeRules:
Oh, man, I knew I forgot somebody!!
How could I forget ROBBEN?!
Drop Babel for him, of course.

My lineup was done WAY too early in the morning…we NEED Robben!

But how ’bout Castelen then?

I think you can buy Castelen on the KNVB website at the moment. There’s a 50% off special, but no return policy.

@tiju. I love your comments and your passion, man. You’re one of the reasons I keep coming back to this blog. Keep it coming.
I completely agree that Ooijer should be dropped. He’s just standing in the way of other players from making their mark at CB like Heitinga, Boulahrouz, Van Bommel (I would love to see) and younger players like Marcellis and Maduro. I think Heitinga’s got a lot more character than you give him credit for, though. I noticed ever since the beginning of his career he’s overcome every setback like injuries, lack of form and come back fighting at a higher level than before. He’s got talent and mark my words he’s going to have a great season at Atletico Madrid. I’d like to see another dutchie join him there maybe Van der Vaart who I think could be really important at that club. Boulahrouz is going to have a good season too. He can smell a place in oranje and he’s going to be a killer this year. Also, I think Gio should not be dropped from the squad. He might not be in the starting lineup but he brings a lot of know-how and experience. He’s not as fast but how many interceptions does he make in a match and his support and buildup play is perfect.

Also, I think Boulahrouz should not play right back unless he is specifically marking someone for the whole match. He’s just not that good at moving the ball up the flanks, passing, overlapping, crossing etc. Heitinga is better at this for now and Van der Wiel is the future. Boulah’s position is centreback which is where he’s stated in the past he prefers.
