Liverpool allows Zenden a free transfer
The lost CL finals against AC Milan will be the last match Bolo Zenden played for Liverpool. The 30 year old and the The Reds’ management have decided to part ways. Liverpool manager Benitez: “I spoke to Bolo before the finals and told him that we want to change things next season. I allowed him to open discussions with other clubs, no secrets. Changes mean also that players will leave.”
Zenden was not surprised with this. “I have had a lot of contact with the manager over the last weeks and he was always open. I have had two great seasons at Liverpool, it is really a great club to be part of. And I think Benitez was also satisfied with me in the last years. I mean, he offers me a free transfer, that says enough.”
The former PSV striker played six years in the English Premier League – he played two seasons for both Chelsea and Middlesbrough – and is ready for a new adventure. His father and manager: “I have spoken with reps from different European topclubs in Athens already. I won’t name names, but I’m talking big clubs from the three biggest European competitions. Boudewijn is only 30 years old, too young to take it easy. I do not rule out a return to Holland, but I think it’s too early for him. We will know more in a couple of weeks.
Zenden came to Anfield Road in 2005 and only played 47 matches in two season, due to two major knee injuries. He suffered a serious ankle injurie just before the CL finals, but could play with the help of a pain-killing injection. “That’s something I don’t like doing, you can really damage you ankle and don’t feel it. But hey, for a CL finals, anyone would do it.”
